NFL Changes PAT

Quote:

PAT attempts (kicks) in 2015 and beyond will be snapped from the 15-yard line, while two-point conversion tries will still be snapped from the 2-yard line. Further, defenses can now score on returns of any kind.
Story here.

Interesting. Not sure how much impact it will actually have, though.

oh, I think we will see a lot more 2 point attempts

to make it more interesting, they should say FGs under 40 yds are only worth 2 points and a kick of over 40 is worth 2 for a PAT

It will be interesting to see if moving it one yard closer will mean more attempts...

2 point conversions last year were at (iirc) about 47%.

Kicking a 32 yard field goal... any "quality" kicker is right around 100% and any kicker that can't consistently make 32 yard fgs is getting the axe anyways.

I still think most teams will go for the fg over the 2 point try unless the 2 point try is necessary. But we will see...

It would be interesting to see if some coach decides to go for two all the time regardless of the situation...

Does the NFL really need more advertising revenue?

This sort of reminds me of player safety issues on kickoffs several years ago. Why are there still kickoffs even after this discussion. So what happens right before a kickoff it is none other than a commercial break. This actually may be the real reason the NFL wants as much scoring as possible in a game.

Does the NFL really think more people are going to watch a two point conversion, the NFL must think people don't watch normal PAT or this would be so unnecessary, other than in very special situations that will make a team win.

If the game is good, and I don't really enjoy watching the NFL much on television anymore, I will watch the commercials regardless of a two point attempt or not. Come to think of it that is not really true. I hated the commercials during the super bowl earlier this year with a passion so I would not have watched the commercials no matter what. And the super bowl was by far the most watched NFL game for me last season. I don't remember one super bowl commercial, but part of the reason was I was not watching many of the commercials in the first place because they did not have much appeal for me I guess.
