Business seminar in Orlando this weekend ....Sunday's keynote speaker...........Joe Montana...my favorite all time QB. I am going to do everything I can (short of getting arrested or fired) to get up close and personal for a photo.

The photo attached (if it works) is one of my most prized sports memorabilia.

I got that helmet from "truckstop" Doug.......Back in 2001, he needed parts to rebuild an old Mac puter. He could not source them so he called me and asked me to try and find what he needed. I found all the parts, ordered them and sent them to him in Canada. The helmet is what he traded me for the parts.

tho who knows whether the Cotters actually paid for it.....as you may remember, I don't exactly have high respect for Larry. I see his linkedin page says he founded Sandbox (he didn't, they merged and let him take over)...tho it does appear he's done some good things since (with money he 'sourced' from Paul Allen)

I can still remember pacing around the 2nd floor of my brother's bar where my office was, trying to persuade Larry to sell me the domain and the game itself....trying to get him to give me a price to start negotiations with. I don't know how many remember that at that time I thought I had 7 figure backing from a member in Boston, but I wasn't telling Cotter that. The site itself had been left unattended for months at that point and all kinds of market manipulation had gone on.

My memory of the conversations I had with him (I think there were two) was despite his site obviously plummeting in value, he still acted like it was worth far more money than I would have ever offered, even if I had guarantees from my investor. In fact, he acted like he'd either get his price or he'd let it die, he didn't care either way. These conversations were AFTER he'd sold it to cbssportsline and I'd already largely negotiated a price of $30,000 to buy the game and domain (not the database) from them only to have them back out on closing the deal with Cotter after looking over the database.

And, as we found out later, the only buyer he ended up finding was one that paid $30,000 for just the domain and the extremely bloated member database...and felt taken to pay that once they got it. Then, as my luck seems to go, my investor was diagnosed with cancer and, while we had some great talks over the next couple months, no investment ever happened and he sadly passed away a couple months after that.

I really need to get started writing my book; I could easily fill a chapter just on the history of Jockstocks.

Here's a great opening sentence for that chapter:
