Long/Belly putters-it's about to hit the fan
 

The USGA and the R & A will be ruling on the "anchored" putters soon and if it goes the way I think it will....there are going to be a number of PO'd golfers. Keegan Bradley will most certainly challenge it....he was, afterall, the first major winner using one. The one I find amusing is Ernie Els, always being against their use ended up using one to win another major....here's a quote of his: "As long as it’s legal, I’ll keep cheating like the rest of them”.

IMHO.....the ruling will be that they're OUT!

I have a few questions...

Are these long/mid-long putters so much better than the traditional style putter? If so, why isn't everyone using them? What makes these putters so "illegal" they should be banned from the game?

Honest questions because I sincerely don't know...

I do golf, but am far from being even respectable... I have never even tried a long putter, nor have I really seen too many others using them around the courses I play, so I am curious as to why these putters, if they are so remarkable, haven't really trickled down to the casual golfer ranks yet.

They are basically illegal because the rules of golf intimate that you are not allowed to "anchor" a club. (only your hands are to touch the club). The primary reason a person would use one is if they are not a good putter (hundreds of guys on tour that hit the shiznit out of a ball but cannot be successful because they can't putt worth a crap) or have the "yips" as they call it (shaky hands). You'll notice that the consistent winners on all tours are the best putters. Some are the best more often than others.

How come I don't see a lot of "casual" users using these putters? I golf quite a bit around my parts on a fair amount of different courses and to my recollection, I have never seen anyone using one of those putters. Is there a stigma attached to using them?

yes there is......it merely means you are not a good putter and are looking for the "magic potion" IMHO. I am not the best off the tee....maybe 230-240yds.....I am much more concerned with being in the short grass than I am about pounding it. I have dedicated 80% of my practice time on the short game and putt lights out. If I could hit more greens in regulation I'd be a single digit handicap for sure.

A great tip for lowering your score:

Play the tough holes as though par for that hole is one more shot than it actually is. IE...play all par 4's as par 5's.....I quarantee you your scores will drop....for many reasons.

When I first read a headline, I thought 'they're going to make these guys change midseason?' Then I saw 2016 and I thought 'Does it really take 3 years to readjust?'

Spieth has already been requested in the IPO sector. Re: getting rid of the "old dead wood".......when your port has BILLIONS of dollars to spend.....getting rid of any stocks that are still active is not really a good idea
