jfcl

I am looking at starting a jfcl style league in my hometown with people i work with. Is there a set format for the leagues? Like which sport the league starts with? How many is optimal to have in the league? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i will try and answer :)

Is there a set format for the leagues?
league play = baseball, football, hockey and basketball
pools (or group) = golf. nascar, March madness and pick-ems

the only format we use constantly is the 'auto draft' for league play!(we use head to head rather than rotisserie...and then award one win for the week)
scoring and settings are adjusted per sport.

which sport the league starts with?
The JFCL starts with golf...it is just the first to start the new year is why.

How many is optimal to have in the league?
good question!
football has had up to 18 in one league. Ideally, 14 or 16 teams is a 'big' league....8 or ten would be a minimum.

Please share where you will be housing your league as we too are looking for alternatives.

I hadn't given that much thought yet to where we would house the league. What do you guys currently do?

yon Beast 07 Apr 2014 11:28 AM

We have been using Yahoo....which has changed its policy this year to require a cell number for some of the sponsored events.

Lots of our guys do NOT like the idea giving out cell number and some won't even have one. This is why we are looking for another fantasy site option.

you've no idea how much I'd like to have at least some semblance of an option for you right here....not because I don't believe in what we have, but because I know how much bigger we could be with a wider array of games

....plus, every day it seems lately I find more reason to not want to be employed..at least where I am currently

When I originally formed the JFCL we used rotisserie scoring because we did have multiple leagues for many of the sports. We had so many players the only fair method we came up with to "gauge" how well a team was doing was to award points for the team(s) you drafted and that way your team was given a point value and then when thrown together with all the other JFCL teams it could be sorted quickly and easily. imo, I would still prefer using the rotisserie scoring over the head-to-head.

And when I first came up with the idea of a Fantasy Championship League, I wanted to make sure the fantasy sports existed online for easy scoring, was easy for everyone to get in and, most importantly, was free. Yahoo! at the time, and up until now, was able to fill that bill. But, I would think any Fantasy Championship League would come to some consensus on what sports you wanted to participate in and then go from there. If you just wanted to do the big four, NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL you are guaranteed a fantasy league for the entire year. March Madness, imo, was always a gimmick contest, but because it was free and members enjoyed it, it was brought into the JFCL.

The original rules and website are still online...complete with the first four season standings here... http://j.f.c.l.tripod.com/
