Pick'em
suggestion......in pick'em, when there is a pitching change, and one of the choices listed in pick'em has been scratched, no way should there be a gift pick win. Those that are doing their due diligence going over things and pick the only pitcher pitching should get the benefit of doing the work. Legitimate ties, as in golf, should get the tie win.

It does get annoying on my end as well that I utilize expected pitcher lists when putting picks in, then find 1 or both didn't pitch when I'm doing results. It's a pain to put picks in one day at a time, so my norm is to put Mon-Fri picks in on Sunday. I don't always think to, but try to go back and look at pitchers as the week goes on, but even then there are game day changes.
So, your suggestion is that in situations like yesterday, where I had Felix Hernandez as a pick, then the Mariners put him on the DL, the default way to score the pick should be I use Marco Gonzalez' stats (listed or not). I'm game, with the caveat that sometimes that replacement is a bullpen guy only expected to pitch 3 innings- hampering him if the pick is strikeouts, benefiting him if the pick is runs allowed. |
Not sure I get your scenario. Trying to make this clearer from my end.
If the pick'em pick is not playing that day...there should not be a tie result...the replacement player should not even be considered. The other pick automatically wins as he is the only one of the two playing. |
You score the players you listed. If a player didn't play he gets a 0. If it is least runs allowed by a pitcher and he didn't pitch he would win if the other pitcher gave up any runs. Most strikeouts the other pitcher only needs 1 to win.
Example, Vegas can't cancel bets because a star sits a game out. I never checked your scoring pickem but I have often made picks based on a pitcher not scheduled. Guess my diligence has been a waste of time. |
See, even here you guys aren't on the same page- one saying if a pick doesn't play the other pick wins, the other saying if a pick doesn't play he scores 0.
Meanwhile, for years these picks have been treated like a postponed game. I've thought about it often, but have gone back to 'well this was what we decided years ago'. I have no problem adjusting, as long as it doesn't involve me determining when a pick would have been known to not be playing. |

One slogan used by the lottery is, "You can't win if you don't play" which I guess has its relevance here.

If Zimmerman gave up none it's a tie. Heading says "least runs allowed". I usually check probable pitchers and like you said reward the people doing the work making picks. |

When I am going through potential picks and I know that a SP (let's say Felix Hernandez) isn't pitching, I assume he will get a 0 and pick accordingly (the other if it is K, him if it is ER, etc). Just like I am more likely to pick SEA when King Felix is pitching than if someone else is pitching. Doesn't happen every day, of course, but different than a rainout in my opinion. It doesn't bother me, though, if it is a free win as any are more than the 0 a player gets for not picking. You still have to pick one to get the point. If the criteria changes, just let us know.
