P.S.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – From right of the 11th fairway on Saturday, Rickie Fowler was playing for position on the par 5 when he attempted to punch an 8-iron second shot up the fairway.
But the shot turned out to be much more complicated. A root under his ball caused Fowler to bend his 8-iron, which prompted an equipment representative from Cobra Golf to make an emergency trip back to TPC Sawgrass to deliver the replacement.
“It was pretty awesome of him to show his dedication to leave a wedding, get on a plane and get here just in case we need an 8-iron coming down the stretch,” Fowler’s caddie Joe Skovron said.
Unfortunately, the equipment rep made the trip for nothing. Fowler never hit the 8-iron on his way to victory on Sunday at The Players, but it was still nice to know it was there.
“With that wind we didn’t need it on [No.] 18, but a lot of times on 18 you need it,” Skovron said.
