Honolulu Police announced Wednesday that an arrest has been made in connection with the Jan. 16 robbery of Robert Allenby.
Patrick Owen Harbison, 32, was arrested on three counts of second-degree identity theft, three counts of second-degree attempted theft, and one count of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
According to Hawaii News Now, Harbison had been in custody for weeks on unrelated crimes but was identified on surveillance video using Allenby’s credit cards.
According to Allenby, over $20,000 in fraudulent purchases had been charged to his stolen credit cards, which were taken after he missed the cut at the Sony Open.
Allenby originally told Golf Channel that he had been kidnapped, beaten and thrown from the trunk of a car after leaving a wine bar (he later said he was merely repeating what a homeless woman had told him). However, Honolulu police said in a statement that “no additional suspects are being sought” and the case had been turned over to the prosecuting attorney’s office.
Harbison was being held on a contempt warrant and had five previous convictions, including a felony drug conviction, according to the police release.
According to video footage, Allenby left the wine bar at 11:06 p.m. and doesn’t remember what happened after that until he awoke at 1:27 a.m.
