Just not sure if all teachers are that underpaid. Around here the insurance premiums are better than at most other jobs and the pension plan is very good.
One of my best friends going back to college days retired at 58! He and his wife were both public high school teachers in a near suburb of Chicago. He came frim a blue collar family with 3 siblings. I doubt he got much of an inheritance when his folks passed away.
He supplements his income with an ebay posting service, but it seems like a fun hobby for him as opposed to needed income.
