Default Ladies Open championship, Did you know?

So, I live in Edina, MN-just a few blocks away from Interlachen, where the women are playing.

Did you know?
3,500 volunteers each PAID $100 to volunteer. They weren't even able to choose what role they wanted/or where they wanted to work. (I understand, they are getting a discount off the ticket price, but imagine paying $100 and getting offsite parking duty or something!!?)

Tickets for the womens open are $50/day (compare with $100-150 for the mens).

Interlachen country club will clear well over $1,000,000 in profit from this event (from a source on the inside). Imagine what Mens tournaments make!

Minnesota has more golfers per capita than any other state in the Union. woo!

That is very common for women's major championships. The money is to pay for their uniforms. Their regular tournaments they do not charge the volunteers. The fact that 3500 people paid for the "honor" to participate (in any capacity) is revealing.

On the men's tour you always pay...for all tournaments.

I have marshalled at 4 PGA tourns and 8 LPGA tourns while still living in NY. The one PGA major tourn was the PGA Championship held at Winged Foot in 1997 (LOVDA was the winner) I paid $150.00 for my uniforms.

Sounds very cool. Just wondering what exactly a volunteer does for these events? Every once in awhile on TV you see the ones on the course who help flag down balls hit into the rough and such, but Id imagine with a big event like what the PGA/LPGA does each week there are alot of behind the scenes stuff.

It is pretty cool Mark...especially if you're a golfnut like I am. There are many mnay volunteer jobs at a tournament. My first year I did transportation for the beginning of the week then marshalling for the tournament days. I'd make runs to the airports and pick up golfers and caddies and get them to the Club to pick up their courtesy cars. Had some GREAT conversations with players on those occassions.

Anyway...there are tons of other jobs:

Standard bearers
walking scorers
marshalls
hole captains
refreshments
hospitality
promotions
greens reporters
leaderboards
scoring tent
driving range

anyway....you get the idea. I can tell you this too, there are "preferred jobs" and only those with serious seniority get them..

Additionally, every member of the club is being charged a $7,000 Assessment. Regardless of the fact that it is a country club, and most of that demographic can afford it, etc.. Is it really Fair to assess a members fee for hosting the open? Especially when the club is going to come out $1,000,000 ahead...

Yup....it probably is fair. I'm sure it cost the Club that much (1 mil) or close to it to get the course in "Open shape".I'd also be willing to bet that the member's don't really have a problem with it....to be able to say "Our club held the Open".

Have any of you ever been to an LPGA event? I never have of course but seen it on ex-s video. It is pretty outrageous. A TON of women (Most who like women) scantly clad in bikinis and weird outfits. It makes a WNBA event look masculine. Google pics from such events. It is quite absurd. Anni should not retire.

What's absurd is this post, Troy...I mean c'mon, I can't even begin to tell you how many things there are wrong with this...

and btw...first LPGA crowd pic I come across?

...doesn't exactly lean towards your comments

Well, on the upside, when Google crawls the Jockstocks forums, the words "Scantly clad bikinis" and "weird outfits" will be indexed
