Apparently their on campus news publication Onward State erroneously blogged that he passed away...and national publications ran with that. Onward State's student editor resigned, and most everyone has retracted.

However, things don't look for him to last much longer anyway. The family is even considering removing him from his ventilator.

I'm sure he was suffering big time, but good that the cancer was not a long drawn out process.

It's not for me to decide if he should RIP, God will decide that after Joe answers to him for his lack of action that helped Sandusky molest more kids.
If there was any doubt, his interview he did a few weeks ago just reconfirmed that he knew a great deal of what went on. IMO

Well, kudos, Orren -- you're absolutely right with this ipo.

I don't follow college fb, and won't buy him, but I don't buy ANY honorary IPOS. People have the right to buy or not buy, and they shouldn't have the right to dictate to others what they can and can't do.

It's having the word honorary mentioned with this IPO that is the problem. The word should never ever be mentioned with this man. IMO
I really can't imagine anyone who has read the grand jury report and heard his last interview that would not feel the same. Imagine if you had a member on here who's kid or someone they knew who's kid was a victim of Sandusky. There thinking this could have been prevented if Joe spoke up. They then see an honorary IPO. Sorry, it's a disgrace to use the word.

Question to Orren and Nick? If O.J. died today, would you offer an honorary IPO? You say its about football only and no one can deny his football accomplishments.

Who said it was about the sport only?
You didn't hear that from me.

I happen to think that the perception of what he did NOT do regarding Sandusky does not kill all he DID do as a person and a coach.

You disagree. Your choice.

Your site, you do what you want.
My site, I will.
Fair enough?

And in answer to your question?
Hell no OJ ain't bein' IPOd here
Huge difference between a guy most of us believe committed a capital crime and a guy we think could have done more while someone else committed a crime.

I will not speak to this again.

"Regardless of your opinion of what JoePa did/didn't do in that situation, it doesn't change what we know he did as the coach for Penn State for 46 years."
Your quote here makes me think it's about his coaching accomplishments only.

Too bad for you that you feel this way.

Sometime it's almost just as bad knowing about wrong doing and doing nothing about it. This falls into this category. Orren, So you can disregard what Paterno failed to do which affected many kids which help caused those kids to get molested, but you can't disregard what OJ did? Very interesting and telling. You just can't seem to understand that Paterno could have saved many victims. Everyday he woke up, went about his day and LET this continue.
I really doubt you read the entire grand jury report. Maybe you should read it before you post any more of your opinions on this subject or release an IPO for a disgraceful person. But he was a great football coach, so we will let it slide. lol Thank goodness he has to answer to God. Obviously, OJ should never have an IPO, just as obvious that PAterno should not have one.
Yeah, the Joe thing is my opinion, a very popular opinion though. Have a good one Orren

I will not speak to this again.
It's your right and choice to not speak about it again.

Ok, one last time then it is over, finished...

Kevin you are making a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE jump to think that just because I released an IPO of him that I am somehow condoning his conduct regarding Sandusky. I don't. Yes, the term is honorary for the IPO- semantics..the honor itself is for him and the sport itself, not necessarily for him as a person.

After all, other IPOs don't go thru background, security, and credit checks before being IPOd here. I don't hold off doing an athlete's IPO just because I don't like him personally- there'd be quite a few athletes you guys would be SCREAMING for IPOs on if I did that..even whole teams not represented.

Listen, my last 2 weeks have been hell and it's not over yet. I've lost a beloved uncle and may be about to lose my mother. So whether or not I should have IPOd Joe Paterno on a free sports site I've run for 10 years is considerably well down the list of things I'll lose one aiota of sleep over.

As far as posting my opinion, I will do so anytime I want as long as I'm not breaking any rules or crossing any boundaries. I allow everyone here to do the same. You simply need to understand that continuing to push a discussion (first Tebow, now this) to the point the horse is not just dead, but pounded into mulch, does noone any good. Your opinion is your opinion. It isn't mandatory that you persuade me to share it. You and I used to have some good discussions on IMs, etc. What happened?

I have to see this guys name every time I check the market. That in turns reminds me of the terrible things he covered up. I can't believe how insensitive you are being to us that feel this way. If you think I'm only one on here who feels this way, then your nuts. I'm just the vocal one who will speak up.

I'm sorry for what you're going through the last two weeks, but quit using it as an excuse for your lack in judgement. IMO Let Nick handle this stuff in the forum then.
