Default MMA Rant

I was supposed to go to the big fight this weekend, the Affliction: Trilogy where Fedor Emelianenko was to take on Josh Barnett in the main event. I've never really been to such an event, so I was very excited. Unfortunately, Barnett tested positive for a "banned substance" and the entire event got cancelled. Now I'm bummed.

What is your draw with MMA? I actually have no idea what it even is, and have not desire to look it up [laziness]. Is it just a minor-level [as in revenue and following] of boxing?

Nick

It's "other sport".

MMA stands for "Mixed Martial Arts", it's Ultimate Fighting, the UFC, Strikeforce, the former Pride Fighting Championships etc.

IMO the BEST fighting sport out there. Boxing is a joke anymore...it sucks. It REEKS of fixes and the people in charge, for the most part, are a bunch of criminals.

I watch MMA regularly, both on spike and versus, and absolutely love it.My favs are: Forrest Griffin, Mike Brown, Chuck Lidell, Rampage Jackson. The biggest punk IMO is Tito Ortiz.

It's WAY better than golf, right?

And my favorites are GSP and Machida, both are absolutely AMAZING.

I watch it a lot, too!

...Usually, the matches I watch are typically a year or more old...

...I won't PPV 'cause I'm cheap that way.

...and yes, as Rich indicated...THE best fighting sport out there!

...I also don't think 'boxing' will ever be the same sport it once was. (perhaps Olympics keep it alive)

My faves gotta be Matt Hughes, Wandelai Silva, Forrest Griffin and any other phenoms....

Kimbo Slice?

Yeah, I won't PPV either. I usually just go on youtube the following day after a fight and look up the names of the two fighters I want to see, and someone usually has the fight posted. You kind of have to hurry though, because youtube doesn't like that (it violates copyright laws).

As for favorite fighters, how about Gina Carano? *drool*

I like Karo...he always keeps everyone on their toes with his throws. GSP is a BEAST. Period.

...a friend of mine, always talks of the old days ...when 'gracie(?)' dominated.
From what I understand (several stories later)...weight classes came later?
This li'l guy choked out guys way bigger than himself...very dangerous ...and a true 'punk' (to use Rich's phrase).
I heard (completely unsubstantiated*) he was shot in his own apartment during a home invasion over a particular dispute!

*completely unsubstantiated: I am too lazy to look it up!**

**I am too lazy to look it up!: can't type...this is why I don't post much...typing skills are in a league of their own....
...25 minutes for this one so far.....ridiculous...p.m.o.!
