Protests in general are odd to me, oftentimes.

The purpose of a protest is to call attention to an issue and/or inspire action.
We know full well about this issue and exactly what action would need to happen for you to think it time to stop your protest, Gabe?

Well, generally speaking......

Typically going woke also involves being intolerant in any way of someone's opinion that differs from theirs.

In this particular case, Kaplan's being woke caused him to suck at his job......not turning in a lineup card before the game.....wow!

There are other ways to get your position out there. Disrespecting our National Anthem and our flag is not the right way. IE Kaperdick. It also sets a horrible example for the youth in America.

Beast....are you not offended if someone does the same when Oh Canada (one of the best anthems I've heard) is playing at a game?

while I am supposed to be a proud Canadian.... I am more embarrassed of our heritage and flag that goes with it.

so... participating or not participating, i don't care! It is not burning the flag or spitting on it which is dis-respectful.
this act(?) does not strike me as a slight against his country. he forgot to do his job because he was distracted with something he should be doing on his own time.

Is the anthem a mandatory thing? I mean....why?? y'all know the tune but few know the words. the real words (ahem)

am I woke?....i think i am but not the way you describe it.

Why is it they even play the national anthem before every single sporting event? Why did that become a thing? And in baseball, they added America the Beautiful at the stretch.

WE don't necessarily hear it before the sporting events we watch...and when we do, do we get out of our chairs and put our hands over our hearts? Yet we expect the Dominican kid getting ready to play his first major league game to remotely be thinking American patriotism in that moment, or the pitcher who's focused on how he's going to approach the batters he's about to face.......and these guys have to listen and stand attention to our national anthem...in that moment...every stinkin' day.

World War 1 is the main reason. For a long time the Anthem was even played before parades, in movie theaters before the main attraction, and Canada also inspired us playing their Anthem before hockey games.

The 1918 World Series is when it became a thing. It was due to enhanced patriotism as it was evident then that we would be victorious in the war. A Navy veteran on the Red Sox turned to the flag, when the Anthem started, and saluted the flag.

There's a ton more to it than my simplification but above are the main points.

I absolutely understand your point about others not from this country but most people, wherever they travel to, work at etc, live by the long known "when in Rome.....do as the Romans do".
