All independent tests and research have proven time and time again that the acreage to fuel ratio is so tremendous right now that even if production per acreage was to increase the stability of such an enterprise would be so astronomical. You think prices are volatile on the mere threat of a hurricane disrupting oil production in the gulf, just think of twister season in the breadbasket of America? Prices - if they truly are determined by production as they would want you to believe - would be even more unstable then they are now... And really, if you believe this: Quote:
You can find one article here or there with some bought and paid for scientist/analyst that will conclude that the oil companies have no blame...they are merely passing along the costs to the consumer, it's distribution, it's production, etc.... and then next month we hear that Exxon/Mobil posted a $3 trillion profit and they are just passing the costs along to the consumers....yeah right... keeping drinking the kool-aid and believing that government intervention is a good idea along with ethanol. |

Did I hear about in this thread about a flex fuel car that runs on ethanol?
I always thought that a flex fuel car ran on fossil fuels and electricity. I could be wrong and it would not be the first time. The thought of an electric car gives me the same ideas as ethanol. I don't hear much talk about building power plants where the electricity comes from. And the same reasons apply to why we have talked about why have there been no oil refineries built in the last few decades. And certain peak times of the year when we many of us use A/C etc. that would not be a good idea either.

Flex fuel just means there is more than one energy source and yes even some of them have ethanol in them.

Sayow's first post which is at the very bottom of page two of this thread said something that really should make people think.
He said that ethanol is a basically being paid for by the feds through subsidies. Now this is just another reason why a variety of fuel sources needs to be maintained and not just one or two. Is it a good idea to let the feds pay for one of the most of the production of one of the most important industries that we have? And another thing is that the potential for many weather related things to happen to crops even grass leaves me to wonder as well. This would create shortages of ethanol because we don't have as much of whatever we are using to produce the ethanol in the first place. And has been mentioned more than once in this post. If there was a solution to all of our problems someone would have found it by now and would be making the Benjamins hand over fist and would not really care what happens to the supply of the energy source at all.

Talk about some tough love but we all need to face the reality of the situation we find ourselves in now. And don't think for a second if there is some other viable fuel to come along the people producing and distributing the alternative fuel will be in it for the profit of it as well.

Yeah, I save over $18.00 per fill-up, as E85 prices in Salina are $1.00 [or more] cheaper.

Well if someone wants to spend $109,000 dollars for an electric car. There will be zero carbon emissions after the car is built. The range is only about 220 miles though.
There are much cheaper cars that cost about 25% of what the first car is but the range of those cars at the most is 50 miles. Some people's commute is more than that just in one day. There is one other little problem the top speed is 50 miles an hour. It seems that the electric car has a long way to go before it should even be considered. Story Here

Now Ive gotta say this thing looks pretty cool. VW in 2010 is going to rollout a car that gets 235 miles per gallon. They call it the "one liter car" cause thats how much it takes to go 100 kilometers. I kind of like the bullet shape it has, though not sure how the average overweight American would fit into it And tsk tsk on that last picture, not having the headlights on when its raining (one of my many pet peeves about other peoples driving).

-mmm-'s example got me thinking about S.U.V.s.
I would not even want to know what would happen to -mmm-'s example if it was involved in an accident with an S.U.V.. I think part of the reason these gas prices are high now is to get S.U.V.s off the road at least some of them. It well could be for the reason I just mentioned. I mentioned somewhere that some economist was predicting that as much as half of the S.U.V.s on the road now will not be there in a decade. This is another excellent example of why higher gas prices are a very good thing in some cases. Let's see how many cars are going to be used by the mother who has a son or daughter on a sports team to get the kids to where they need to go in order to play? And will there be more or less of carbon footprint by using at least two sedans or one S.U.V.?
