But the fracking debate, imo, is often based on wrong and skewed information...

Opponents to fracking will state that billions, if not trillions, of gallons of fracking fluid is being used...which is correct. But out of all of that, 99.5% of that fluid is non-toxic and the other .5% could be a variety of chemicals, some of which would have no harm on any living creature on this planet.

Yes, it does need to be monitored because there are instances when toxins are used (but again, in a very small percentage), but I don't get why it is made out to be such a scary technique when, for the most part, is relatively harmless.

Watching a pro-environment, anti-oil documentary will obviously have an agenda...
100% agree. That fracking debacle of a movie by Matt Damon had to be rewritten 5 times because of all the BS info they were spewing

I think they were just trying to point a finger at ENCANA.

It may be the safest way to pull up natural gas, but that's not saying it is safe!

To get back on topic, the latest from Greenwald:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...ithout-warrant

Quote:
Where the NSA has no specific information on a person's location, analysts are free to presume they are overseas, the document continues.

"In the absence of specific information regarding whether a target is a United States person," it states "a person reasonably believed to be located outside the United States or whose location is not known will be presumed to be a non-United States person unless such person can be positively identified as a United States person."

If it later appears that a target is in fact located in the US, analysts are permitted to look at the content of messages, or listen to phone calls, to establish if this is indeed the case.

I find the coverage of this story very interesting...

At first, the media was on board with the sentiment that this is an outrage and how can our government dare spy on us!

But now I am hearing more of the "This guy is a criminal and needs to be brought to justice. Of course the government is spying on us because it is for our own good. If you got nothing to hide, you got nothing to fear." Type of thoughts from the mainstream press.

Most of the media is now in lockstep with whatever the government wants to do...and it seems as if the people of this country don't mind.

It's been this way since early in 2007

One of the people I follow in twitter was saying this last night. He used to work in media, and he was talking about how the current state of corporate media isnt much different than Putin's Russia. Basically he was saying that its ok to have some dissenters in print media, but you cant have any of them on television since its such a persuasive propaganda tool.

And Richie, its been going on far longer than that. One can argue the current incarnate of media being subordinate to goverment started with 9/11. It reached one high peak with the cascade of lies and propaganda which led us to the War in Iraq. Not surprised you said that year though, I am surprised that a bombastic boomer resorts to passive/aggressiveness to express his Obama Derangement Disorder though.

I think it began even earlier than that but was certainly on full display during the 9/11 tragedy.

Those in the media are so scared that they will lose their preferential treatment if they dare say something negative about the government.

http://news.yahoo.com/snowden-waits-...124900816.html

This guys options are fading.
Last week he had a good sized list of countries to plead asylum.
Today...Venezuela looks like his best option...but is not a guarantee that once he is there that the government won't 'flip' on him.

I'm on his side!
Obviously, money is an issue....
He needs to be more anonymous if he wants results.
