Default Pujols screws St. Louis

Joins Angels.

He signed the huge $250 million/10 year contract. The Angels swooped in and overpaid him (at least I think so, no way would I have signed him for a 10 year contract). Because he "Lebroned" St. Louis his Cardinals legacy is tarnished (at least for Red Bird fans).

On the other hand, I think the Cardinals were playing hardball with him. They knew that their only other competition was the Cubs (after the Marlins dropped out) so I'm sure they lowered their offer. Kudos to the Angels for picking up the best player in baseball, but it comes at a HUGE risk/price.

they're all overpaid....

but IMO here's a case where the AL DH rule worked against the Cards....the Angels were lying in wait the whole time, guaranteed...and being able to tell Albert he could take days off in the field...a LOT of 'em later in the contract....while playing in LA..where there's significantly more Latinos than St Louis..........was a huge enticement

the difference between $200mil and $250mil just isn't that much to a team over 10 years in the grand scheme...not a team that expects more sales and more playoff runs with this signing.....

But, sorry guy...I know it's gotta suck. When Santana was traded at least the Twins got something back. When Mauer was expecting a new contract, at least they were getting it done when he had a year left on the contract.....and few believed it wouldn't GET done...

I agree with the DH thing, I don't even expect him to be their starting 1B, he'll probably be their everyday DH to stay fresh and healthy, then fill in at 1B, 3B and OF.
