Default Vancouver 2010 Olympics

One month until the games and so I thought I'd create this thread. I'll try to post some of the more local and Canadian stories as we get closer to the games.

I'm getting pretty pumped!!

First things first thank you for the link to the Olympics home page.

I have not been excited about a Winter Olympics since probably Calgary in 1988. The reason being I visited Calgary about a year before the Olympics started and got to see the very early phases of the where the skiing and the bobsled was going to be and then went to see where the Calgary Flames play as well.

Well what am I most excited about and anticipating about this particular Olympics. It has to be the Men's hockey for some reason.

It is going to be kind of interesting to see players from the same team competing against each other. Evgeni who English is slowly coming along has no problem with going against Sidney in a faceoff with the game on the line as an example.

Why are they going to make us wait for so long for it to start though. I think the Olympics start on a Friday evening with the opening ceremonies and the Men's Hockey does not start until the next Tuesday.

Well another interesting thing to me at least is who exactly am I supposed to be rooting for when it is Canada vs. United States? I think the teams are in the same pool and will play each other before the elimination rounds start if that makes any sense. Go Team Canada because I want them to play the Russians and that is not going to happen until the elimination portion of the competition.

Well just to make it easier to find it latter on. The first game for Team Canada is on Tuesday February 16. I will put the schedule for both of Ice Hockey Competitions right here.

Ice Hockey Schedule

The other thing that fascinates me about the hockey competition is that smaller countries at least in terms of population can compete with the teams from Canada, Russia, and the United States.

In the 2006 Winter Olympics Sweden took home the gold, Finland got the silver, and the Czech Republic the bronze in Men's ice hockey.

If at first you don't succeed try try again. In other words keep trying P!

Heading to the games?

Getting into the 2010 spirit doesn't have to cost you a fortune, in fact there's lots to do for free.

Olympic protesters are ramping up for the games. There are unfortunately a ton of protesters preparing for the opening of the games. The Anti-Poverty Committee and a few First Nations groups.

I have no problems with peaceful protests, but a lot of these protesters are professional protesters. Real idiots who go to any protest just so they can cause damage, throw things at the police, etc. During the torch relay in Victoria, some of them came over from Vancouver and threw marbles under the feet of police horses. That's not what I'd call peaceful protesting.

Default Olympic snow woes: Vancouver Games officials give up on Mother Nature

An El Nino year has given us a fantasticly warm winter! It was 12 degrees celcius today for example. I had just a sweater on when I went out.

Problem is, we're hosting this big thing called the Winter Olympics and you need snow for that!
