Default Ray Rice......

terminated? Big man ....punching his woman in the face......I hope this IS a termination and not a suspension. Maybe the message will finally be sent.

What's weird to me is....if the police had the video released today (and they did) why was counseling the punishment....and if the NFL had that video (looks like they may have given they themselves had said they had what the police had)....that looks bad for the league

so here's the question....is the Ravens/league uproar today little more than 'oops, that tape got out.....uh, yeah, it's deplorable' when they may have already seen it and had been willing to let it all slide?

also, ESPN is just worse than ever...they had somewhat backed the light suspension before...today? suddenly some of them acted like Rice should be hung up by his monty balls until dead........then referred to the video as 'extremely graphic' when it clearly was not

the worst of it all for me? Rice did what he did, including dragging her out of the elevator by her arm and kinda kicking her leg to get it out of the elevator...with absolutely seemingly no emotion whatsoever

Let's see if a lawsuit comes of this:

this is apparently why the delay...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-sh...122256617.html

Quote:
the casino had made copies of the tape for both law enforcement and Rice's attorneys, but the NFL never asked either of those two entities for copies of the tape. There are, presumably, three possible rationales here:

1. The NFL is lying about not having seen the incriminating tape.

2. The NFL had not seen the incriminating tape because its investigators did not think, or know, to ask sources other than the police for a copy.

3. The NFL knew it could have checked with other sources, but chose not to do so in order to preserve plausible deniability and avoid bringing a harsher penalty down on Rice initially.

As a result of Monday's revelations, Rice was swiftly cut from the Ravens and suspended by the NFL. While his particular situation has been resolved for the moment, the question of what commissioner Roger Goodell knew and when he knew it remains a critical one.

There is no way I buy that Goodell didn't see the video.

The NFL has tremendous resources and for people to think that someone "overlooked" or didn't ask about this video is completely preposterous.

I think this really illuminates the lack of perspective and the wrong prioritization for discipline in Roger Goodell's world. If this entire incident means Goodell gets booted as NFL commissioner, then there is at least one bright spot to this whole ugly affair...

this is a cluster, for sure......the NFL once said they had access to everything the police had...yet now say they hadn't seen that video

..but if the police had it, why on earth was counseling their only punishment?
...and whether the NFL had it or not..what did anybody THINK it would show any different than what was assumed to have happened?

to me, quite obviously counseling and a 2 game suspension was laughably weak......but now, months later, this video comes out and it's worthy of him being cut from his team and an 'indefinite' suspension?!

poorly POORLY handled then...poorly Poorly POORLY handled now

so, if this 'indefinite' suspension turns into 6 extra games, it costs Rice no more money than just being released...and then what, he's a free agent, open to being signed by any team in the league?

it NEVER should have been 2 games then...and shouldn't be out there as if he's completely banned from the league now....what he did was horrible, but other players have done horrible things and not been talked about as if they may never be allowed to play again

the 'right' answer, to me, would have been for the league to be in contact with the Ravens...and think things thru far enough to come up with something more definitive before announcing ANYthing........now it's just even more of a cluster than it was originally

from CBS sports

Ray Rice was released by the Ravens on Monday and shortly thereafter suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

It seems unfathomable that any team would try and sign Rice -- based sheerly on principle -- but just in case, the NFL is reportedly letting them know it would be a bad idea.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports teams were told via memo "any contract with Ray Rice will not be approved or take effect until further direction is provided from Roger Goodell."

You'd have to be nuts at this point to sign Rice if you were another team. But NFL teams are crazy when it comes to trying to gain a competitive advantage, so you never know.

Goodell handed down the indefinite suspension shortly after Rice was released by the Ravens, making it clear the league didn't want anyone trying to sign Rice.

But just in case it wasn't, the message was passed along in louder fashion on Monday night.

Roger Goodell interview
Yahoo sports

Quote:
Goodell insisted that, to his knowledge, no one in the NFL saw the video of Rice actually striking Janay Palmer (now Janay Rice)

Your opinion is the same response I'm seeing absolutely everywhere.
He still insists that common sense would have played a roll had he seen it....in that, the video was quite shocking and easily would have got more than two games. Once the video was seen, it was acted upon.

This is a 'plausible' explanation.

I think the NFL and the Ravens did do the right thing. Albeit untimely.

LOTS of this aftermath is a 'witch hunt' after Goodell's head, imo...from previous, ummm...er...incidents!!?

Bottom line....whether Ray Rice is a punk or not.... criminal behavior is frowned upon. ON and OFF the field. Domestic violence is just what it says...violence. He's gone and the game goes on.

I wonder what she said ?

Personally I don't see what's plausible about seeing a video of 2 people walking into an elevator followed by 1 dragging the other out by their arm face down and unconscious...followed by an admission that he hit her. I don't have to see the sun come up to know it did.

But that said, I also don't think this should be a career ender for players, either. Be hard nosed, yes....but if you or I were to do what Rice did (we wouldn't of course) we'd get fired, but we wouldn't be banned from ever doing the same kind of work we'd trained all our lives to do.

We all know...and now Goodell agrees...that 2 games was stupid weak. What would be happening now if Rice had been given 30 days jail time and suspended 8 games by the NFL when this video came out? We'll never know...just sayin'

I am, again, with Sayow on this. "common sense" would have made him do whatever he could to preserve the nfl "image" (thus pink october)

While he MAY not have seen it himself.....I guarantee you his "people" have. Unless he pulls the oblamer defense, he is culpable. They screwed this up.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11...xecutive-april

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée to an NFL executive five months ago, while league executives have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.

The official played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

The NFL has given ABC News a detailed account of the league's attempts to obtain information about the night that Ray Rice was arrested for assault, and it portrays NFL security as a stunningly incompetent organization.

...

Even if we accept the NFL's version of events at face value, though, it's incredible how half-assed their attempts to find out information were. The NFL's story is that they:

1. Were told to file an open records request for information, and subsequently neglected to do so
2. Called somebody up, and after they couldn't reach the person one time, stopped trying
3. Had a conversation with some cops who weren't involved in the investigation
4. Did nothing for four months, before asking a court official for information and getting nothing

And that's it. That's the NFL's story!

BREAKING NEWS:

"Former Ravens embattled running back Ray Rice has won the appeal of his indefinite suspension, a league source has told CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. He is now eligible to sign with any team in the NFL.

It remains to be seen if an NFL team takes a chance on him. His addition to a roster could create a backlash.

Rice was suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy after a domestic violence incident."

I don't think he will play ever again in the NFL...

But saying that, who knows...One of the NFC South teams might be desperate enough to try to do anything to make the playoffs...same goes with the AFC North...

Look at what New England did with Blount after he was let go from the Steelers for being a malcontent.
