Default Waste Management Phoenix Open

It's that time again for, what I think, is one of the most unique tournaments on the entire PGA schedule. It will be held, as usual, at the TPC Scottsdale. The 16th hole, a par 3, which usually looks like this:

transforms into this....the biggest "party" in golf.

The PGA/Tourn officials have decided to encircle the entire hole with grandstands this year...no more "horseshoe".
It is an amazing golf hole for this tournament as I'd estimate that more beer is sold on this one hole than in any other entire tourn anywhere else on the Tour. They cheer hard for great shots and will boo the shiznit out of you if you do not hit this green. Last year Ricki Fowler signed and tossed into the crowd dozens of his famous colorful bhats to the crowd while walking to the green and drove the fans out of their collective minds. It was a sight to behold. There have been 8 holes in one on this hole and the roar is louder than anything ever heard on a golf course...with residents claiming they heard the roars from over 2 miles away.
Mark Wilson is the defending champ. The winner gets $1,098,000. Course record is 60...done by, I think, 3 different players. It'll be interesting to see if MICKP can get back on track and to see if STAKY will be alright after Sunday's debacle on the 18th in regulation. A good field...lots of buys as the scores here are usually pretty good.

Thank you for the interesting information as always. A golf hole that is completely surrounded by fans. This may part of the reason for the loud crowd around this hole. Maybe giving me some drinks would get me to watch golf again but I doubt it. I don't even watch the Majors anymore. Well I did last year but Rory ran away with it and there was not much doubt or drama and I think I mentioned that when it happened. I don't think I watched a major since then. Maybe The Masters this year which I almost always watch a part of we will just have to see.
