93rd PGA Championship
Final Major of the year and IMO it's wide open as far as picking a winner.....any age group....and nationality....no one is dominating anything. For me.....this is good for golf.
Being played at the BEAUTIFUL Atlanta Athelic Club just down the road a piece from Augusta and Atlanta. They've lengthened the course again, to over 7400 yds. Short hitters beware. The PGA has made provisions to alter the course mid tourn depending on condition, by shortening some holes with alternate tee boxes. Last time it was played here it was won by David Toms (coincidentally....a short hitter). The Field: Allenby, Robert – AUSTRALIA Baddeley, Aaron – AUSTRALIA Barnes, Ricky – Phoenix, Ariz. Thank you.
Thank you. I must say I have watched very little golf this year. Don't really know why I just can not get into it for some reason. Well it could be the U.S. Open where there was absolutely no drama at the end at all. Golf needs to have more than one person with a shot at the end of major tournament such as the U.S. Open.

Hey Peter.......listen....re: the Open....yes one guy ran away...but....he was unconscious. If you look at the rest of the top 10...they were only a few strokes apart. That's going to happen now and then....Tiger has run away with a few himself.
The Masters winner was Schwartzel...and there were 6 guys withion a few strokes. The British..only 4 or 5 guys were under par and Clark won by 3. Most majors will be closer than OUR Open was this year.

Thank you for reminding me that each tournament is different. The Open Championship this year did not have very much drama even though good guy Darren Clarke won.
I am just used to something very different with the U.S. Open. Several things set it apart. First the scores can be very high. The winner this year was well under par. And as I mentioned there can be a lot more people in it at the end because of the crazy stuff that can happen and there is the potential at each hole. Wasn't it Phil who was going to win it a few years ago with just a few holes left and really went for it and basically lost the U.S. Open on just a few shots. That is the type of thing I am talking about.

another thing to remember is that these golf courses are doing whatever they can to raise the scores. Look how many are changing 2 par 5's to long hard par 4's. This also contributes to a lack of drama as there are 2 less eagle chances. You want drama in a tournament? Make every one end with a reachable par 5 with a TON of risk/reward and see some swings in the score then.

Ok, the weekend is here, all of the real interesting story lines are non-existent right now and the ratings are about to tank. Who wins this thing?
Yes, the ratings will tank and not only because of Tiger not playing. The Rory storyline is almost gone, unless he shoots a low score today, he is out of it. Phil has to go low and be in the Top 3 at days end to make it interesting for Sunday. Adam Scott needs to get in there and avoid DB's on 18. Darren Clarke is watching today and not playing, same for Dustin Johnson. Let's face it, Keegan Bradley, James Dufner, Scott Verplank and even Jim Furyk do not spell must see TV. I will watch today, but mainly to see DB's or worse. Oh yeah, the winner will be Adam Scott |

agree with most...but....I'm still not ruling out Stricker.

The thing with Stricker is the following: Yesterday the announcers were recalling when Steve was ranked #2 and trying to get to #1. He said something to the extent that he was relieved when dropping lower in the rankings, it was too much pressure trying to gain the #1 spot. That mentality does not win majors. IMO Steve is a great gifted golfer, but look at his history in majors and you usually don't see him in the hunt on Sunday. |
