Number Crunch: Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro
Oct. 24, 2007 By Kin Lo PGATOUR.com ShotLink Data Analyst The Ginn sur Mer Classic is the second-to-last event of the PGA TOUR Fall Series -- one of the final opportunities to earn (or keep) a spot in the Top 125 on the Official Money List and a full exemption for the 2008 season. NUMBER THAT COULD WIN YOU A BET 1981 The year during which twin brothers last played in a PGA TOUR event, when Curtis and Allen Strange both played in the Texas Open. This week, 21-year-old twins Derek and Daryl Fathauer have been granted sponsor's exemptions and will play in the Ginn sur Mer Classic. The Fathauer brothers are both accomplished amateur players from the local area. They are both currently seniors at the University of Louisville and hope to play together someday as professionals on the PGA TOUR. YOU MIGHT NEED ONE AT THE END OF THIS SEASON 7 and 7 The number of players that have moved into and out of the Top 125 on the Official Money List in the first five events of the 2007 Fall Series. The following players have moved into the Top 125: • Jesper Parnevik (from 139 to 89) • Johnson Wagner (from 131 to 95) • Michael Allen (from 154 to 96) • Mark Hensby (from 149 to 99) • Bill Haas (from 126 to 100) • Alex Cejka (from 128 to 110) • Mathias Gronberg (from 150 to 121) The following players have fallen out of the Top 125: • *Brett Quigley (from 109 to 126) • Craig Kanada (from 111 to 127) • Harrison Frazar (from 120 to 129) • **Joe Durant (from 121 to 130) • Bob Heintz (from 122 to 132) • Doug Labelle III (from 124 to 133) • Steve Allan (from 125 to 135). *Injured **Exempt through 2008 due to tournament win in 2006 OTHER INTERESTING NUMBERS 63 In spots, the largest gain made a single player on the PGA TOUR money list during the Fall Series. Justin Leonard has moved from 99th to 36th with a win at the Valero Texas Open, T6 at the Fry's Electronics Open, and T13 at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Ben Curtis has dropped the furthest on the Official Money List in the same period of time, down 19 spots from 103rd to 122nd. He did not play the first four events of the Fall Series, and withdrew after the first round of last week’s Fry's Electronics Open due to illness. 82 The number of players out of a field of approximately 130 at the Gin sur Mer Classic are currently outside of the top 125 on the Official Money List. The top 70 players (out of 130) will make the cut after Friday’s second round and compete for a share of the $4,500,000 total purse. $737, 276 In dollars, the amount of money made by Kevin Stadler -- the man who is 125th on the TOUR money list -- this season. With two events still left to play, this is already up $76,378 (5.5 percent) from the 125th spot on the final 2006 Official Money List ($660,898). The professional analysts at PGATOUR.COM estimate the final amount for 2007 will be between $750,000 and $800,000. $810,000 In dollars, the winner's share of purse this week, which would all but guarantee a final position of 125 or higher on the 2007 Official Money List. The total purse is $4,500,000. More than half of this amount will be distributed to players who finish in the top 10. The median payout (for the player who finishes exactly in the middle of the field after making the cut) will be approximately $18,500. The last-place finisher among cut-makers will earn approximately $7,600. $1,113,281 The amount of money won by Steve Flesch in the Fall Series, the most of any player. Flesch has earned this amount with a win at the Turning Stone Resort Championship and a T27 at last week’s Fry's Electronics Open.
