Default OT-Vegas Help

Going to be going to Vegas soon, wondering if you guys had some recommendations on hotels, shows, poker, and what not. I'm on a bit of a budget so I'm not looking for anything too extravagant.

Thanks in advance!

Go see Penn & Teller, Josh Blue (last comic standing), and/or The Amazing Johnathan. Went last year and saw the P&T and Josh Blue, but missed Johnathan. They were funny as hell, if you like comedy shows.

The Cirque Du Soleil shows are fabulous as well.

do NOT put every thing on 'red' at the roulette wheel.

I doubt any of the things I knew of in Vegas are even stiil there...not been in 35 years...but I am sure above advice still holds true

To add to this advice....don't ever think you have a "system" for roulette! I guarantee you one year I bet "12" for at least 40 spins in a row....as soon as I quit, 12 came up three times in a row....go figure!

"O" is an awesome show. Blue men group was also cool. Luxor has neat rooms and great food. Forty-deuce has a good show at the Mandalay Bay and a bunch of celebs hang there as well. Sort of a semi-private cabaret show. Belagio has a very good poker game in Bobby's room. Any hotel you want to stay in call and ask for their poker rate. Most of the time just transfer to the poker room and ask them for their poker rate. Instead of hundreds of dollars a night you may get it for as low as $50 a night. As far as gaming well.....

Bet on Gordon and Edwards at Phoenix. Never take a card over 11 if the dealer is showing a 2,3,4,5,or 6. If they show 7,8,9,10,or Ace then play with their rules. ALways double on 10 or 11. If you do play roulette then pick a group of 4-6 numbers that are together on the wheel. This way you can focus on the ball falling in that little net you created. Play 2 or 3 team parlays. Anymore is a sucker bet and any less you need to bet $110 to win $100. Many times I take the favorite and go over the total. They need to score more to cover so either take fav and over or dog and under. Many NBA teams will rest or chill a bit if they have already sewn up their spot. Teams like Clippers and Nets are spoilers who are playing Elton Brand etc. Knicks are catching momentum. Sonics have a funk over them with the apparent move.

DBacks are hot. Bet the road team +1.5. Even if they lose a close one you win. Stay away from home fav -1.5 as they can usually only win by one in the 9th and it's over. Fun slots are Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, and Wizard of Oz.

Get to Buffets early. Nothing like food sitting for hours until you arrive.

Poker is the best. Only put money in the pot when you have a hand. Best odds there are in Vegas. Fold marginal hands in early position and raise the same hands on the button or cutoff. Play your opponent's cards instead of yours. Stay away from anything lower than $4-8. If you can find a $2-$5 no limit game then jump in. Buy in for $100 and either get felted or win $500 and leave.

Set win goals and loss limits daily. If it is $200-$600 then as soon as you lose $200 or win $600 then you are done for the day. Go watch the parlays you bet earlier and relax. Get a massage or see a show.

Stay at the Luxor. Cheap but they renovated the whole place. Awsome with an even better Club inside called LAX. You can gamble at any casino but remember to stay away from the tables that are near elevators or away from the main gambling area. Other clubs that I recommend are TAO at the Venitian, The Bank at the Bellagio and for a fun time I suggest Olympic Gardens.

Food and Buffets I suggest the Wynn, Luxor, Circus Circus, and Ceasars Palace.

My girlfriend and I just went the 1st week of March...we stayed at Luxor which was nice (aside from the construction they were doing right in the middle of the lobby/casino area) and not too expensive. Only problem is you have to walk quite a bit to get to the other end of the strip. If you're looking for something more centralized I'd go with Bally's. It's not as nice as some of the other places, but pretty much right in the middle. When you book your room call the hotel a couple days before you arrive...a lot of times places will drop their rates if they aren't full and you can stay a little cheaper. We went to see Love (the Beatles cirque de soleil show) which was pretty cool if you don't mind paying $80 per ticket. If you're looking for something more affordable go to the Coca-Cola place on the strip across from the New York, New York. They have awesome Coke floats and half price tickets to the shows that aren't sold out (forget about the big name shows) starting at 10am (better to get there early...there will be a line). As far as gambling Troy's advice sounds pretty good to me...I made the most money at the Sports Books (the new Planet Hollywood place has a nice one and they gave me free drink coupons for every bet I placed) and on blackjack. Roulette is pretty much the devil and craps is a good time, but don't expect to win. If you want to do some shopping check out the miracle mile shops at Planet Hollywood, the Forum shops at Caeser's Palace, and the shops at the Bellagio. If you have some extra cash and want to get a nice dinner check out Lawry's Steak House. Great prime rib, but it'll cost you $50-80 per person. The Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay is a really cool Brazilian place that has like 300 kinds of rum and awesome food, but it's a little expensive too. If you want something cheaper check out the buffets at Bellagio or the Wynn and the Burger Bar between Luxor/Mandalay Bay...best burger I've ever had. Any of the bars/clubs you want to go to will be nice, but I think we had the most fun at LAX. Look for the people handing out free coupons to get in wherever you decide to go...most of the places have $20-40 covers for out of state IDs. The Playboy Club at the Palms was pretty cool, but you'll have to take a cab to get there and back...it looks close enough but it's a long walk. Check out as much as you can whlie you're there (there's tons to see) and have a great time

Weird story when I stayed at the Palms. We were in the pool and there was a tower under contruction. Got a bit windy and plunk. Something flew into the pool past my shoulder. I fished it out. It was a wood shim. I could of been killed. All I have is the story since it didnt hit me. But how liable could they be for that loose wood up there? Wow!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I was all ready to book my room for the luxor when I found a same price at the MGM Grand + a room upgrade and $35 to use on anything, I also got tickets to the "O" show. I've also heard downtown Vegas is cool, and is there any kind of dune buggyin' or something like that around?

Thanks again and any more suggestions are always welcome.

For desert tours and such either talk to the concierge at your hotel or check out one of those tourist places along the strip. Sounds a little sketchy but the prices really aren't that bad if you go through them
