NASCAR 2021 Drivers and Schedule
So it's not like I didn't know it was coming, it's just that......wait, it's February?!
So first....are duels Thursday night fully setting the order for Sunday? Second, more turnover in drivers than usual, so 2 lists below- the first are drivers I see as having rides that we don't have listed. The second are drivers listed I'm not seeing as having rides. Obviously I know guys like Jimmie Johnson are done, but I don't know who else need not remain. Anthony Alfredo Christopher Bell Josh Bilicki Chase Briscoe Ross Chastain Cole Custer Joey Gase Quin Houff BJ McLeod Tyler Reddick A.J. Allmendinger Justin Allgaier Trevor Bayne Tanner Berryhill Greg Biffle Clint Bowyer Landon Cassill Ty Dillon Daniel Hemric Jimmie Johnson Kasey Kahne Matt Kenseth Casey Mears Paul Menard Brett Moffitt Jamie McMurray David Ragan Reed Sorenson Matt Tifft J.J. Yeley Who should be added? Who could be dropped?

First, each driver takes to the track for two timed laps in single car qualifying. The qualifying order is determined based in reverse order from what times they ran in practice the day before from slowest to fastest.
Only the front row for The Great American Race is decided after time trials. For the rest of the field, their starting spots will be determined through the Duels at Daytona -- a pair of 160 lap races with odd numbered starting positions being determined by Duel 1 and even numbered spots set in Duel 2. But again, with the charter system, 36 cars are guaranteed to take the green flag so how about the final four spots amongst the open(non-chartered) teams? The highest finishing open driver in each duel race will automatically make the field. For the final two spots, NASCAR will go back to time trials and award those final two spots based on the fastest qualifying speed amongst those not already locked in. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bowyer, Johnson and Kenseth are done. Briscoe (replaces Bowyer) and Chastain (driving for Ganassi) at the very least need an IPO. Not sure where the other newbies end up or if they have full-time rides. Bubba Wallace will drive for the new Jordan/Hamlin team but not in quals. Ty Dillon has no ride this year as the team he was driving for - Germain Racing - closed up shop so he is driving the 23. Alex Bowman moves from the 88 into the 48.

I'm finally changing Bubba to Bubba, which will also mean a symbol update to walbu
I've got brich and charo ready for release. I've tagged Bowyer, Johnson, and Kenseth as retired. McMurray is retiring too, but is in the race Sunday Ty Dillon and David Ragan are also in the race Sunday, but don't have regular rides. From my 'should I IPO' list, there's 3 others with decent odds for the race Sunday I'll look into further- Cole Custer, Tyler Reddick, and Christopher Bell. Alfredo, McLeod, Bilicki, and Houff are in the race, but horrible odds and not sure how full time they are.

On beyondtheflag.com I found a full time driver list....culling that suggests the drivers below are full timers
#38 Ford – Anthony Alfredo #20 Toyota – Christopher Bell #78 Ford – B.J. McLeod #51 Chevrolet – Cody Ware #8 Chevrolet – Tyler Reddick #52 TBD – Josh Bilicki #17 Ford – Chris Buescher #00 Chevrolet – Quin Houff #41 Ford – Cole Custer still thinking if any, I add Custer, Reddick, and Bell and stop for now ....which virtually guarantees someone like Alfredo wins the 500
