Default The Barclays

Playoff season is here!

It all kicks off with the Barclays, taking place at the par 71 Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, NJ, which is all but next door to NYC. This means that Westchester doesnt have a PGA tourney for the first time in 40 years.

For this tournament, the top 144 golfers in the FedEx standings play this week, than the top 120 in the standings tee off next week at the Deutsch Bank, than the top 70 at the BMW, and finally the top 30 golfers will make it to the Tour Championship in Atlanta to do something akin to Hakeem winning his titles while JORDM played baseball

The defending champ is STRST, and the winner takes home a cool $1,260,000.

Are there more tournaments after the playoffs?

In most sports playoffs infer that is the end of that sports season.

Las Vegas better be on the schedule.

As rocket said, there is a fall schedule which is mostly used by golfers at the lower end of the spectrum trying to secure their cards for next season. And Vegas is a part of it

Thank you both for answering my questions.

I still have a question. Why is the playoffs in golf not at the end of their calendar year?

Don't try to answer my last question.

this playoff system is all new. its part of the fed ex cup, with the winner getting a solid paycheck of 10 million dollars. Not bad right?
Normally there was never a playoff, simply the majors. This is simply to provide some excitement for players and fans alike, what the whole point system comes down to. Some like it, some don't. Last year, Tiger skipped one of the events and lots of people cried foul, saying how you can't win the playoffs by missing an event. But it's all experimental in my opinion.

There was never a "playoff" but there has always been a season ending "Championship". This tournament, most recently sponsored by Buick, has always been called the "Westchester Classic" (albeit with different names in front of that) for more than the last 40 years. It, for a long time, preceeded the US Open and the crew at Westchester CC, usually had the track groomed like the Open. It was TOUGH. The real crappy thing is the current sponsors have moved this tourn to NJ....bleah.

...is it just me (just got back today), or are the greens at this course somewhat....tinier, than I have seen lately?
