Last Major of this year

The PGA Championship...typically the "strongest" field of the year (I'm sure that's by "world ranking"). This year being held at Oakland Hills CC in Michigan. As I recall this is a difficult golf course. I believe this track held the 2004 Ryder Cup, a few U.S. Opens and at least one Senior Major. I cannot imagine many low scores here and would reccomend against prebuying this tournament.

Tiger was last year's PGA Champion, obviously at another venue, obviously not defending this year. STRONG field though....

They must not have gotten much rain just a little north of Detroit lately.

Some of those greens look brown and really bad.

Does this really effect the golfers much or do they not even really notice it because they are so focused on what needs to be done?

I would think it would be a little hard to read at least some of the greens with them being a brownish color grass but I don't know that for sure.

Peter..it's not nearly as bad as it looks on TV. As long as the balls are rolling consistently the color is actually irrelevant. They control the speed and reactions of the greens with cutting, rolling and watering. They all have the very best irrigation systems and normally have as much water as needed available to them.

Actually, they want consistency in how the ball rolls. What they really want is for the ball not to take that first big bounding bounce like it is so far....the greens are intentionally hard. After this rain delay both the players AND the superintendant will be happy. The players because they will hopefully be able to spin or at least stop the ball......the superintendant because the water makes it easier for him to maintain the greens.....less damage will be caused. They have already had to "syringe" these greens as it was getting alomost out of control already. Think "US Open greens"....they are dammed close to those now.

Thank you rich as a person that has never actually played a round of golf ever I was just wondering what the players would want in this particular tournament. Now of course what the golfers want and what conditions they play under are not always the same thing. You mentioned that these greens are almost like "US Open greens" and with said that makes them harder than a "normal" tournament in the first place.

I have noticed in past tournaments after it has rained sometimes the scores will go down some and it sounds like part of the reason is that the greens are softer and the ball is somewhat easier to control when they hit the greens. I hope I am making sense with what I just said.
