N Word And The NFL

A proposed rule change:

If passed, every time a player is caught saying the N-word their team would be accessed a 15-yard penalty.

The player can be ejected from the game for a second infraction.

A perfect rule to put into place since the game is being played in a country that no longer gives a sh*t about the first amendment.

IMO, this is a joke. Censoring players while they are suppose to be giving it their all?

And do people really think the non-blacks playing the game are just peppering the blacks with that word? I would guess that the blacks are the ones who are using the word the most...and probably would be the most penalized.

Roger Goodell is quickly gaining ground on Selig as the worst commissioner in professional sports...ever.

Here's one, too....a league that's looking to penalize players for using one racial slur continues to allow one of their own teams to call themselves another racial slur. Don't think Washington's name IS one? Next time you meet a Native American, call him the R word and see the reaction.

numbers are a funny thing Orren....but alot of what I'm reading is that a majority of Native Americans couldn't give a rat's arse about the name redskins. you can also find stories re: the opposite side. the imposter potus....barry....and other members of Congress have no business in this. What the majority of Native Americans think is, IMHO, all that matters.

The congress should stick to more important issues instead of more of this divisive that seems to be in my face at every turn.

It's all about context. The Native Americans really don't care what words the white man called them. It has been the white-skinned pc crowd that is more offended about the usage of words like Redskins, Sioux, etc. than the indians.

So is the word really an offensive word if the people it is intended to offend aren't offended?

I guess my experience is a bit different. A good friend back in college was full-blood Sioux...he despised the term...but then that was the late 70s, too. However, given I live in a state with 7 reservations (and some of the poorest counties in the country, tho that's a different issue) I do have conversations with some of them occasionally...one asked me just last year 'would you be offended if it was the Washington Whities?' ..offended may not be the right word, but still something many would prefer just isn't out there

In this day of PC, African-Americans have gotten the most attention when it comes to slurs....and lately the gay community has pushed in right behind them.....Latino slurs have gotten attention, too...yet slurs for Natives get little attention...largely IMO because they have no national voice. It's sad that many around here have the view of Natives as people who drink a lot and are poor and untrustworthy..gee, we herded them like buffalo onto reservations and gave them nothing for land they utilized for centuries before we ever showed up..and we're surprised so many remain for generations living well below the poverty level?

Whether offended or saying they're not, from what I know paying more attention to things like this at least is a small step in the right direction. I'm not talking about Chiefs and Braves- they're not derogatory. Sioux should have been viewed no differently than Vikings- it simply refers to a significant part of the local population. Redskins, even Indians, are names they were given and never wanted.

Nah.. First amendment ---- don't count

That NFL game is played all over the world... Seattle are World Champions therefore american amendments do not apply..

you guys need another amendment to say that when we say World we mean American...

....but not so much if you start this crap..it's not the average American fan that does things like call Seattle world champs...and we certainly don't always agree with decisions made by the 'powers that be'
