Super Cyclone to hit the Middle East
Story
A few things not covered in that story: It reached the equivilent of a cat 5 (cyclones dont use this scale, only hurricanes which Ive always found odd since they're more or less the same kind of storm with only geography as the difference between the 2) yesterday with winds estimated at 140mph and the pressure at 930 millibars (for a reference, Katrina was around 890 in the Gulf of Mexico), down to Cat 4 today as it moves into slightly cooler waters near the Arabian peninsula. Its expected to make landfall in Oman (for those who are geography-deficient, its the country east of Saudi Arabia) as a Cat 3 or so and than move north through southeastern Iran. Very unusual storm given recent history as there have only been 3 known storms in the region to have hit even the equivilent of a cat 3 hurricane, most "super cyclones" of the Indian Ocean tend to hit Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, but tracking in the storms in the region (at least in the open sea via satellites) is only a fairly recent thing (early to mid 70s).
