Default their hypocrisy knows no bounds

One month after Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria, for which she was accused of "talking with terrorists", and Bush labled such visits/talks as "counterproductive", guess where Condi Rice is today?

Rice meets with Syrian foreign minister

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met Syria's foreign minister Thursday in the first high-level talks between the two countries in years.

The meeting came hours after the chief U.S. military spokesman in Iraq said Syria had moved to reduce "the flow of foreign fighters" across its border.

The Bush administration has shunned Syria, which it considers a state supporter of terrorism, and last month President Bush assailed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for making a trip to Damascus, saying it sent mixed messages to the Syrian government.

But the White House has been under pressure to talk with Syria and Iran, another U.S. opponent in the region.

Well, not that it makes much difference to ya'll what I think, but to me it seems different when the Bush Administration goes there, as opposed to Ms. Pelosi. If they label Syria as being a terrorist nation, and then speak with them, it's a lot different than Ms. Pelosi doing it "behind the backs" of the Bush Administration after the BA already labeled them as a "terrorist nation".

The thing is, before Pelosi's trip they talked to the Department of State people (and since those are Bush's appointees and such, they gave the go ahead and didnt do it "behind his back"..and I seem to remember Pelosi called the Prez himself right before but I dont have much time to look that up), and half (or was it 2/5ths...the problem with not looking it up since Im posting on the fly) of the congressional delegation on that trip was of Repubicans. But the right wing talking points only focused on Pelosi and how shes out to undermine the President (cause you know diplomacy is such a menacing element). The left wing talking points on that at the time of her trip were all about how Newt went to China back in the 90s against Clinton's wishes, and how he told the Colombian government they should circumvent the Dept of State and just deal straight with Congress (which is about as good..err bad..an argument as when the right wingers point to something Clinton did as precedent justify something their side did underhanded as if that makes it any better).
