This one's gonna cause trouble
Sad actually, a bipartisan agreement that's bound to explode in the faces of both sides.

The article gives us very small pieces of a very large and complicated puzzle.
Here are some of the pieces of the puzzle that we know so far from the article. "The bill would allow illegal immigrants to come forward right away, but they could not get visas or begin a path to citizenship until the border security improvements and a high-tech worker identification program were put in place. After that, illegal immigrants could obtain a renewable "Z visa" that would allow them stay in the country indefinitely. After paying fees and fines totaling $5,000, they could ultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. Heads of households would have to return to their home countries first." There will also be some kind of guest worker program also. I am really hesitant to even really say what is in the complete bill because it has not even been given to the public to scrutinize yet. I do find it rather interesting though that it seems from the article that both sides appear to at least have some problems with it already. As the old saying goes "the devil is in the details" and we do not even know all of the detail yet.

Thank You hork.
I will be back when I read the whole thing. It may take me over a week though. And no I am not going to read the whole thing. There are a couple of things that I have noticed already though. There is no summary of the bill so people can get the gist of what is going on. Now granted not every piece of legislation is going to have a summary but with such a large bill that is 790 pages long it would be kind of nice. Where is the summary of this bill? There is one other little bit of information from my link this was first read on the senate floor on May 9, 2007. Why are we first hearing about this just over a week later?

actually it has been in the news for the past two months. there was a brief story on it the other night as part of a ried interview. but it didn't become truly newsworthy until it was given a real shot at a vote. now with it having a possibility of becoming law it requires the obligatory lobbying, commercial airtime, and personal attacks that any legislation of this type produces

The vote to end the debate and move forward only got forty-six ayes. The required number of ayes votes was sixty.
I will try to find the latest important vote for this piece of legislation probably tomorrow.
