Default Investing in Today's Market

I know, it sounds like I am about to give a bit article with all sort of tips.

Actually, I was curious if we have any J$ users that trade on a daily or even weekly basis?

I have always enjoyed watching the market, and fantasizing about the perfect trades. Personally, I am favorable towards mutual funds for longer term investments [i.e - two or more years before selling]. However, those are just what I said they were, investments. I would like to become a part-time trader. Perhaps I make only $100-$200 extra month. Whatever the amount is, I would just like to learn.

I have really been taking a look into LUV as they are one of the stronger airlines in a weak airline market. I mean, you have to feel good knowing that you're paying $50 USD per barrel of oil, instead of $140+ like the other airlines, right?

Anyway, to repeat myself, do we have anyone out there that trades regularly?

I don't trade yet, but I too would like to.
I use the stock simulator game at investopedia.com to play around and learn a litte.
we could even set up a game for J$ if anyone was interested.

I dont day trade but I hold a few stocks, that a cycle through the up and downs on a quarterly basis or so. Mostly spec plays. once one blows up, I immediately jump out, and try and find the next one. Similar to gambling, but involves a little bit of homework, mixed with a little luck I guess.

I started only a year ago, and I cant believe how easy it is to trade online. Its really fun. You just have to go in, and set aside a certain amount of money, and prepare yourself to lose it all. If you need the money to pay your mortgage or something, this isnt for you.

So, what online brokers do people use?? I use computershare to get MO and PM. But, it takes a week, so when there is a nice dip in price, I usually miss out. And, Smith Barney (really Morgan Stanley now) charges a BOATLOAD in comish/fees when buying/selling stocks.

I prefer Scottrade, myself.

I used E-Trade, and they had the simliar lag that you speak of. If I want to buy a stock, I want to buy it in real-time.

Haven't looked at Scottrade, thanks! Have looked at TDAmeritrade and Etrade. Neither of those really seemd to be all that great.

Hey Notredame, if you haven't signed up yet on Scottrade use my referal code so we both can get some free trades. Thanks

Referal code: KLWU0319

I've been trading part time for a few years now and its probably the most fun thing I've gotten myself into. I've been trading GE, C, FITB, DSTI, RIMM, MGM, ETFC. Buy low, sell high my man! Rinse and Repeat.
