That's two night races rained out. Tomorrow will be a first. I don't think they have raced on Mother's day before.

I mean I love my mom like the next guy. Pink ribbon, Pink patch, Pink socks. But it is a little large of a statement to swing a huge pink bat. I think patches that say Happy Mother's Day would have been real classy. What's next light blue bats for prostrate cancer? I mean like I said it is nice to make statements. MLB tries too hard IMO. Agree or disagree Rich?

They tribute everything. Sooner or later they gotta play the game and say a few words or make a small patch. Changing their uni's, hats, bats, balls, is too far IMO. They honor: NY FF, NYPD, troops, Pink, Blue, etc etc. Like I said I am all for honoring everyone and everything but at a smaller dosage is all.

DISAGREE They are doing they're part (they do, afterall, ALL have Mom's/wives/sisters/daughters) to raise more awareness and $$$$$$$$$. ALL professional sports should do more like MLB is doing...there can never be enough awareness or $$ raised for breast cancer IMHO. But that's just me.

IMO the bigger the symbol the better. If you've ever had someone close to you die of cancer, you'll try to do whatever you can to find the cure.

What MLB is doing is amazing and more sports should do this. They aren't changing the makeup of the equipment...just the color. Equipment still functions the same. No biggie IMO.

The pink bats do several things that are important.

They raise awareness of breast cancer. All of the pink bats are also auctioned off and the proceeds do go towards cancer research.

Back in March of 2006 some NHL players also used pink sticks shortly after Wayne Gretzky's mother Phyllis died of lung cancer. So some of the NHL players used pink sticks during warm ups and even a few of them during the game for the same reasons as the pink bats but it did not get nearly as much publicity as what MLB is doing.

Story about NHL players using pink sticks

All of the major sports are doing auctions for worthy causes as well. I just would not want to leave them out.

Now if hockey players can use pink sticks it should be easy for baseball players to use a pink bat right?

Thanks. I appreciate all the info. I didnt know it was for breast cancer. I just thought it was pink for mother's day. That's cool especially the auctions.

Now I know.

I find that curious as in your first post you said:

"What's next light blue bats for prostrate cancer?"
