I think you'd be right to this point....winning their 1st pennant in 70 years
But I also think the percentage drops going into the Series, as many have a tendency to 'pull' for their favorite team's league at this point.
Then there's the whole dynamic of Cleveland's fans just enjoying their first championship in years when the Cavs won....which might tweak the percentage back towards the Cubbies for some AL fans.

The only thing I know for sure is....I've not 'picked' a team. On the one hand, I'm an AL...even AL Central fan. On the other hand, the Cubbies were one of my favorite uncle's team.

cubbies perennially bad in my lifetime.
maybe a coincidence, but the rise of the cubs came with arrival of Bryant ....and a ton of young help.
It's hard not to make them the sentimental favourite.
Cleveland the bad guy in this matchup....not the underdog....just the bad guy

Does it make me a horrible human if I am rooting for the Indians to win? I really, really hope the Cubs don't win the World Series.
Certainly, I hope the Indians win so that Lebron is not enshrined as a city hero and savior. He insulted Cleveland in a horrific way. Yes, he came home and won an NBA championship but that does not forgive the insult he delivered to Cleveland on ESPN with "The Decision" debacle. He is receiving a huge paycheck (larger than other teams offered) to play in Cleveland and that is only reason he returned. He is a despicable human and not worth the paper his headlines are printed upon.
But, mostly, I hope the Cubs lose. They are the most loveable losers on the planet. We lost the loser Red Sox a number of years ago and that was a national sporting loss. Losing the Cubs as the nation's leading losers would be a terrible thing. The only thing left would be the Mariner's shutout of the World Series and who really cares about 40 years of losing history? We need the Cubs to keep losing to hold the nation together, and to give us something to hope for in the post election dystopia.
An additional reason for the Cubs to lose might be the prophetic W.P Kinsella short story "The Last Pennant Before Armageddon". Kinsella (who is actually Canadian) is best known for his novel Shoeless Joe, that became the movie "Field of Dreams". Perhaps Kinsella was a prophet and if the Cubs do win the World Series, it is curtains for all of us. Dystopia again. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php…
Any way you slice it, we should all root for the Indians, even if we can't bring ourselves to root against the Cubs. Voiding Lebron's halo; protecting American tradition; or defending against the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine), we should all hope the Indians prevail in this most important World Series in our lifetime.

BTW.......I believe Arrieta steps up big and evens the series tonight. That might mean a Kluber/Lackey rematch and that does not fair well for the Cubbies.

Not Lackey.
Hendricks top era in baseball. Give him 3 runs and he never loses.

The Cubs scored one more run in the tenth inning in game last night.

Game 6 in 2011 world series. Rangers have to get one more strike more than once in that game.

Then that famous home run by Kirk Gibson in game one in 1988.

Joe Carter walk off.

This game is right up there that is for sure but for very different reasons almost nine hours later I still can't believe the Cubs won the world series.

I am functioning pretty good on about two hours sleep and I am not even a Cubs fan.

I will probably think of more things latter on such as how many world series teams have come back and won the last three games of the series to win it. I can't really think of one right now.

And where are you Steve Bartman was one of very first thoughts this morning?

Heartfelt CONGRATS to the Cubs and their fans. HELLUVA series. Over 100 years is an awfully long time to wait.

In regards to Peter's question above, the following are the other teams to accomplish the feat of winning the last 3 to take home the hardware:

1925 Pirates over the Senators
1958 Yankees over the Braves
1968 Tigers over the Cardinals
1979 Pirates over the Orioles
1985 Royals over the Cardinals

Also To consider:

2004 Red Sox destroyed my Yankees....down 3-0 to win the ALCS

2016 Cavaliers down 3-1 to the Warriors

In the NHL......teams have come back 4 times from being down 3-0. The Leafs, Islanders, Flyers and Kings.
