Default Joey Logano

2-2 1/2 years ago I posted about this youngster that was racing midgets and then stocks (where I saw him drive at Myrtle Beach Raceway) that IMHO is destined to be the next big star in the "bigs". I am watching this kid now and I stick by my statement except I'm almost ready to guarantee it. Last BIG star was Gordon. Joey Logano will be the next

He's driving for Gibbs as of now.

Then Joey crunched the wall a bit. He was not the only driver to do so in the race though.

I know it was a rookie mistake.

And as they pointed out in the broadcast yesterday every driver goes through these types of things in sometime during their career.

Joey did dominate the early part of the race almost Kyle Busch style until his incident.

Joey is definitely someone to watch for the future.

Will he be racing any with the "big boys" this year?

Would they quit changing the sponsors names of the various what should I call them so I don't have to call it the "big boys".

IMHO it was not a rookie mistake. He was skirting the higher line going into turn1 or 3 (not sure) and he got "squeezed" on both sides....made the car loose as hell and he lost it then.

I did not really think it was a rookie mistake either even though I said so.

To be more clear his incident was just one of those things that happens in racing a lot of the time and I don't even think the most veteran of drivers would have avoided this particular incident and there was not much Joey could have done to keep himself out of the situation in the first place.

Let's see this was Joey's third race in the Nationwide series which is sort of the "minor leagues" of Nascar and Joey won the race. I just mentioned this that way because there are some of us that don't pay attention to Nascar as much as others around here.

This kid must be good. And I say kid because he is only eighteen years old.

Story Here

Here is a picture of the winning driver.

Logano will replace Stewart in the "big show" IMO.

It's official.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Joe Gibbs remembers being a little hesitant the first time he met Joey Logano, days before he was to sign the phenom driver to a development contract with his race team.

"I come from football," the former Washington Redskins coach said Monday. "I'm used to seeing these great big guys, so when you sign them I'm getting my money's worth.
"I looked across the table and there was Joey, maybe 5-10, 5-9. I said, 'He's 15. We're going to sign him?"'

Three years later, a few of inches taller and only a few pounds heavier, Gibbs is convinced the rail thin, 18-year-old Logano can effectively replace Tony Stewart in the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing next season.

"The farther you go the more you become convinced you've got somebody special," Gibbs said.

With Stewart, a two-time Sprint Cup points champion, set to leave JGR after 10 years to become driver-owner of what is now called Haas CNC racing, Logano will inherit Stewart's sponsor, Home Depot, and his crew chief, Greg Zipadelli, next season.
