Default 2015 Home Run Derby Rules

This actually sounds interesting, imo ...

Now if only there was a rule banning Chris Berman from announcing for it...

I like the attempt, I even like some of the specific changes.

...I do NOT like tying the length of the home run to anything...the LAST thing you want, if you're an owner, is for your player to be trying that much harder to crank it deep and potentially injure himself or just screw up his swing. They don't give you anything extra in a game for how FAR over the fence you hit it...and they shouldn't here.

True, from an owner's perspective, but from a fan's perspective, they love to see the loooooong ball. And I've always maintained that the All Start weekends are for the fans, not the owners.

I imagine that the Clippers' owner wasn't thrilled when Blake Griffin leaped over a car during the dunk contest a few years ago (just think of the risk if he mistimed his leap or didn't clear the hood), but I know for a fact that the fans, myself included, loved the spectacle that was on display.

Nice result to see the hometown hero win the contest in Cincinnati.

I agree. Having the rounds timed now made it way better. Because of the previous rules, a batter would sit there and take pitch after pitch until just the right one was thrown which made the derby seem tedious. Now seemed like non-stop action.

If I were to change any rule it would be to allow the batter to hit another ball while one is still in flight...but I'm guessing that might hinder scoring and is why that is in place.

Question: How exactly do they select competitors?

I mean I know there were guys hurt, and others who declined, but they sure didn't just go down the line of who had the most homers in the first half.

Then after the selections, how did they seed?

I did like the format, tho I could still see more tweaks.

1.) I would shorten the rounds a bit
2.) One reason I would shorten the rounds is to make it double elimination
3.) I'm not sure how to change, but it didn't seem fair that Joc Pederson had to go almost directly from Rd 2 to leading off the finals, while Frazier had been resting

Don't know how they picked them but order was number of HR on July 7.

Liked it better than before but Bryant had to see by far the fewest swings with the way he soars his. His outs to the track were killing him in time.
Need to be fairer between the line drive hitters and the soarers.
