Default Nancy Pelosi should know "a total failure" when she sees one.

So Nancy Pelosi comes right and says the president is a "a total failure."

Now I have a challenge. Let's name an accomplishment for every month that this congress has been in session since very early January of last year.

The number has to come up to at least 19 for my challenge to be met. And since I am feeling in a very generous mood it does not really have to be an accomplishment to get to the number 19 to meet the challenge; but it also must be something that the president has actually signed into law. This last requirement will most likely really reduce the list by a bunch of items.

I will start the list off with a few items that the congress has given the president and he has signed since very early January of last year.

1. Renaming of a ton of post offices.
2. Requiring that compact florescent light bulbs will be mandatory by a certain year.
3. Protection of telecommunications companies when it comes to there role which in many cases involve the war on terror.
4. The America Competes Act that funds programs that deal with science, technology, and research; and it also funds state education grants as well.
5. Did provide funds to rebuild a bridge in Minnesota.
6. The so called "stimulus package" bill.

Well these are six things I can think of right now. And a person may be thinking this democrat congress has been doing way more than that. Which is quite true such as these incessant committee meetings to make the point that republicans are evil; but that is not really an accomplishment now is it because the people have been told this for how long now? And even a majority of the senate has passed many things as well but many of them have not been able to stand up to cloture as well.

One other thing with regards to number four on the list I am assuming that the president signed this into law because it sounds like something that is so obvious that the president has signed it into law. But the president has actually been very rigid when it comes this particular congress and its spending habits so who knows.

This article is quite fascinating because it does not go into a long list of accomplishments that Ms. Pelosi and this congress has. And in fact this particular article points out that the president actually has a higher approval rating than the very place Ms. Pelosi does or does not do the people's business.

Article Here

Can we come up with thirteen more things that the president has signed into law since early January of 2007?

7. Increasing the average mph to be at least 35.

Edit:Yes I meant mpg and not mph.
I must have been thinking of those electric cars that people could actually afford to buy. The maximum top speed on several versions was in the 40-50 mph range.

I think the electric car idea is an excellent one except for two major factors.
How much energy will be lost making the car; and what happens when there is a higher demand for electricity to the price of electricity when we start plugging these things in. I could really care less if it in the "non peak" hours which would be late at night and very early in the morning. I am sure we will just tell the electric company. We are just using this for our cars can we just not pay for that portion of our energy use.

Maybe the feds can subsidize this as well just like they do ethanol.

8. I am sure there has been at least one supplemental expenditure bill so that they feds can hand out Social Security checks and keep our wonderful national parks open as well.

Now please don't all rush at once to add to the list. We still have 11 more items to go.

I am sure the congress will be giving out some candy like Santa latter on this year but that will only be about five or so items; well actually maybe six we do need another "stimulus package" now don't we?

Here's one that will go through in the next day or two. Bush was going to veto, but apparently has decided not to.

Will this be the last gasp of one of the most pathetic sessions of congress in quite some time?

13. A bailout, rescue or whatever a person wants to call it bill with a little pork added by the senate so that the bill would eventually pass in the house four days after the house rejected the bill.

So last Thursday we had both presidential candidates along with congressional leaders, the president, and the treasury secretary in a meeting at the White House and nothing got done. Well Obama started to talk and the bickering started but of course it was McCain's fault because he was the one that "inserted presidential politics" into the discussion and of course Obama did no such thing of course.

So we move to this past Monday. Members of the house did not pass the so called rescue.

So the congress the senate passed a revised rescue bill and the house passed it overwhelmingly just yesterday.

So what were these revisions P?

Some regulations to make sure this type of thing does not happen again. No of course not that would be way to practical during an election year.

The revisions were actually pork so members of the house could go back to their districts and say we have revised the excise tax on arrows that are used by children and other such crap. Why am I thinking of atmospheric water harvesting for some reason?

So we have a bill that is either a rescue a bailout or whatever a person wants to call it and some pork added latter on as well so that the house will pass the darn thing.

If this is indeed the last gasp I think this bill is quite an appropriate ending for this particular congress.

This is not going to be fault of this congress oh no the president was the one that signed it into law and the president expressed he so wanted this bill as well.

I doubt people will even remember who was in control of congress a decade from now when we are right back where we started which is where we are now.

I find the title of this article rather interesting. The words 'threat to economy' are used in such a way that would indicate to me that there is no real threat to the economy whatsoever. So a question should be asked if our economy is not threatened then why would the congress do this particular bill in the first place? Just because the president says the bill is needed and the congress gives the president what he says he wants. How has that been going in the last little over seven years now?

I love how this article calls this a bipartisan effort. Well there have been three major pieces of legislation that have been called bipartisan since September of 2001 and they are the patriot act of 2001, use of military force in Iraq, and even though it failed last year the comprehensive illegal immigration bill was also a bipartisan effort before it fell apart. And as I just mentioned this particular bill is being called a bipartisan effort by none other than Speaker Pelosi as well. I think a much more accurate description of the word bipartisan when Washington says the word is screw the people and darn the consequences of our own actions.

I never will forget back late in 2006 Senator Reid complained that the previous congress to the one we have now was a "do nothing" congress.

Well this congress has been doing something at least since January of last year.

And here is the list in the order that I talked about them since middle of July of this year when Speaker Pelosi called the president we have now a "total failure".

7. Increasing the average mph to be at least 35.
8. I am sure there has been at least one supplemental expenditure bill so that they feds can hand out Social Security checks and keep our wonderful national parks open as well.
9. Led's story talks about the feds bailing out people that those evil predatory lenders made people sign mortgages that they had no business signing in the first place.
10. The president signed a reauthorization that help to fight around the world such things as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
11. Ms Pelosi on her own decides what should and should not be discussed in the people's house.

Well I guess it is still the people's house anyway.
12. Well we have spending bill that is about $600,000,000,000 that I am sure has 0% pork in it.
13. A bailout, rescue or whatever a person wants to call it bill with a little pork added by the senate so that the bill would eventually pass in the house four days after the house rejected the bill.

Note to self.

I really need to get this all on one page at the end of this year.

I would hope this congress does not do anything the first five days of next year but who knows.

Why am I so critical of this list?

It is not so much what is on the list but what is not on the list.

It should be pointed out there are some things on the list that are indeed important but is that even close to a majority of the things I have listed so far?

Now I must keep going back to do we have some serious issues that need to be dealt with or not?

Now if we don't keep dealing with these issues will these problems continue to get better or worse.

We have had a president and congress that has not exactly had the ability to deal with these critical issues over the last two years. I would not want to say whom should get blamed for this others should decide for themselves. But in fact I think both branches have an equal responsibility of not getting things done that need to be done in the time frame I am talking about.

Now my greatest fear is that we get so off track that we leave other problems that need addressing as well. I have very much noticed in the last few days that the economy is what we need to fix even next month but there are other things as well. Addressing this economy in a responsible way is going to take a lot of time, money and energy. And that is only one problem and there are many more problems to address than just that one that are equally important as well. Iraq is another little issue as well. We better get this one right as well or there will be just as severe consequences as our current economic situation as well.

One of the things Iraq has taught us is using the military is very costly and I am not just talking about the money being spent either.

One last question. What did the president veto that he should have signed into law and I am just talking about since early January of last year?
