It's so weird these days....saw an ad for a carpet store trying to keep going where the guy is sitting at a couple's dining table showing them samples...he's wearing a mask and gloves, the wife is sitting there looking like she was thinking 'why the hell did I agree to do this commercial'. Then there's this realtor still running ads requesting to come view people's houses that are considering selling and saying he needs inventory....dude, how many people are MOVING right now?

We're now mostly shut down but keeping the office open (on rotation)...production staff on call. We're trying to use the time to get some things done we may otherwise struggle to justify the time for. Yet to stay with OSHA requirements, we're all going to be in cleaning on Monday.

While the state is rising up the ranks somewhat in positive tests, 65% of them are in the closest thing we have to a metropolitan area....80 positives just from one meat packing plant. In MY county, 7 positives, all recovered...and they were all 20+ miles from me.

But that bill with the Paycheck Protection Program...I did all the research, got connected with people studying it from the bank's end, got all the numbers together....only to be told the loan amount would be strictly based on average monthly wages only. Sure, you can officially use it for health insurance, 401k matches, utilities....but there won't be any left to do that with once you've paid wages.

Nobody's talking about that part tho because too many banks didn't get the memo and are making it hard for many businesses to even GET the loan.....and the feds obviously erred badly in projecting how much they'd need for this given they're already scrambling to double it.

there is no escape....only postponement.
we are all going to get it and many will die and others will recover.
The world we knew is effectively gone and I can't see it ever going back to 'group' activities without dire consequences.

sports will take a major gonad hit...salaries will have to recede.

someone told me this is still just the 'first wave'. there will be a second wave apparently, in a couple of months.
At which time people will be asked to repeat quarantine for the same reasons.... and people will be much less willing the second time around :/

We are living in a country right now where the choice seems to be between

1. Somewhat physically healthy and socially/economically wounded
2. Probably physically unhealthy and somewhat economically/socially stable

Any kind of middle ground seems to lean toward the worse ends of both spectra, so this is the classic case of finding ourselves between a rock and a hard place.

There may be a light at the end of the tunnel, though, as some experts expect "herd immunity" to eventually kick in, and, well then there are possible mutations of the virus and...so nobody really knows for sure.

There are just so many layers to all of this....and so many ways to view data we receive.

For example, my state has one of the higher rates of increase in positives right now yet no stay at home order.....sounds bad until you realize 75% of all cases and even higher percentage of recent positives all come from one area. A negative nationally there being it has now resulted in Smithfield foods closing down....meaning it could impact the amount of pork available in stores going forward....

In the rest of the state? Barely 150 positives with over half recovered. The county where some of the first positives and the first death occurred? Barely 10 positives total...and it's the most populated county outside the 2 involved above.

But one of the things bothering me this morning is the amount of surveillance that is growing thru this pandemic. Among other things, apps being developed specifically to use people's phones to track where they've been and who they've come in contact with. There has already been some of that (Google timeline, etc) but, while we may feel OK about that increasing NOW....it also means a foothold for this type of privacy invasion to continue and increase long after we're past this. If you're a spiritual person you see some of this as increasing signs of end times...whether you are or not, who exactly would you even trust to have access to the kind of information they may have..

Michigan......Gretchen Whitmer?

From the Washington Examiner:

"Sheriffs Mike Borkovich, Ted Schendel, Ken Falk, and Kim Cole of Michigan’s 101st District released a press statement Wednesday afternoon detailing what they said was their decision to place their oath to the Constitution above the Whitmer’s wishes.

“We write today to inform the public for our respective counties of our opposition to some of Governor Whitmer’s executive orders. While we understand her desire to protect the public, we question some restrictions that she has imposed as overstepping her executive authority,” read the letter signed by each sheriff."

Imagine that.....common sense. I've always thought that elected Sheriffs and their deputies were more patriotic than power hungry cops (NOT all cops but too many). I'm thinking she's lobbying so hard for VP cause she herself would be surprised to get reelected as gov.

Does this mean that the current PGA comp is over?

If so, then how long will the next one run?

the first half comp is over, yes...it was going to be over after the tournament they played just the 1st rd of since we've started going by their season rather than the calendar

Meaning, their 2019-20 season ends, I believe now, with the Tour Championship in early Sept...which would then be our abbreviated 2nd half comp

What Rich listed for fall schedule is then, I believe, the beginning of the new 2020-21 season and would then be the start of a new comp here as well.

But we aren't there yet....nothing starts here until things actually start out there...but at this point exciting to think about ANYthing starting.

Ok people, being the anti govt person I am, I got to thinking hard about this Virus crap and what it has done to the world. It baffled me that with all the FDA's, CDC,s WHO and hundreds of others in other countries, how could this happen? How could the entire world get caught like they have?
Answer.........they couldn't. Yeah yeah yeah.....many will say...oh boy another conspiracy theorist with more nonsense. Well say/think what you will but I am here to tell you that after endless searching and asking questions, I have come up with what I consider to be a real eye opener. Read for yourself and make your own decisions:

We really really......really need to get more people tested, both for the virus and to test if they're now immune.

Every day we hear/read about the new positive tests for the day, the number of deaths....and the number of negative tests.

But how many people have had the virus but were never tested? How sure are they that people who've had it are at least short term immune?

For example, my sister-in-law and nephew returned from 2 weeks in China while I was in Hawaii the end of December. Upon my return I did have a few low energy days where I seemed to get out of breath easier...didn't think a thing about it because the word coronavirus wasn't even in our normal vernacular yet. Have I already had it and I'm immune?

Just in pure numbers, they keep talking about percentages...but the only stats they use are positives vs total tests. On the flip side, how many deaths over the last few months were COVID-related, but have NOT been tagged as such, especially Jan-Feb.

Meanwhile we keep kicking the can down the road throwing more money at things that have become necessary....but may have been less so if the concentration had been about more testing earlier.

Another aspect of this? With meat packing plants closing (one of the hottest spots is 60 miles from me despite the fact there are virtually nil active positives within 45 miles of me) farmers, especially pig farmers, are now faced with destroying thousands of pigs because they have no place to take them.

Only about four in 10 who follow sports avidly and go to arts and entertainment venues and amusement parks said they would do so again if they reopened before a vaccine was available, the poll found.

Another four in 10 said they were willing to wait, even if it takes more than a year to develop a vaccine.

The rest said they either “don’t know” what to do or may never attend those events again.
this is why I think sport salaries have peaked...at least stadium sports.
golf may have an advantage.

are contracts still valid with no play?...will this kind of thing end up on contract clauses?
can owners afford existing contracts?

sports has the potential to be much harder hit than the film or music industry.

pisser!...all around pisser!

Wimbledon.

these guys saw the problem back in 2003.....paid $2 million a year since then.
kudos to them.
Could this be the new norm? will insurance companies put themselves in peril if it is?

Actual sports competition...soon?!
I may have to do a refresher on how to do stats!
