I will give a person one sentence that tells a lot about what we are discussing which is a person's right to privacy.

"Nearly all the cases were tossed out when Congress in 2008 granted the telecommunications retroactive immunity from legal challenges, a law the U.S. Supreme Court upheld."

This is just part of the reason why should be discussing this as our role as citizens. We basically have all three branches of government saying to heck with personal privacy because former President George W. Bush was just fine with this sort of thing by signing this particular piece of legislation.

I just wanted a person to know the reason why Verizon and there is little doubt in my mind other telecommunications companies thought it was o.k. to collect and store data about their customers without worry because various branches of the federal government did not have a problem with this sort of thing happening. There is much to think about with this particular story for sure.

http://rt.com/usa/fbi-director-mueller-drones-947/

Quote:
The FBI uses drones for domestic surveillance purposes, the head of the agency told Congress early Wednesday.

Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirmed to lawmakers that the FBI owns several unmanned aerial vehicles, but has not adopted any strict policies or guidelines yet to govern the use of the controversial aircraft.
Time to remake V for Vendetta, where instead of vans sweeping the streets listening in to people's conversations its drones flying overhead.

Also, no strict policy or guidelines so obviously nothing can go wrong with that

I don't intend to change the topic.
policy and guidelines. Big brother.

Regulations for fracking... and the toxins, carcinogens and waste produced by it are sadly needed ahead of the privacy debacle.
I watched an episode of 'The Nature of Things" last week and it showed these wells 50 feet from schools!!....in the USA!

I see ZERO common sense to it. Health or wealth should be a no-brainer. I also see it's a giant Canadian company that is taking advantage...so embarassed.

ABSOLUTELY there should be something that protects ones privacy. But we all suspect the FBI makes up their own policy and regulations to suit them.
Not so easily assured that the rules get followed.

Would be simple to fix the fracking issue.

The point being....the government knows these infractions are occurring. So where IS the police who police the police?...and then, of course who would police those police?
How do you introduce more policy and guidelines without government getting bigger?

Not to get to far off topic...

But the fracking debate, imo, is often based on wrong and skewed information...

Opponents to fracking will state that billions, if not trillions, of gallons of fracking fluid is being used...which is correct. But out of all of that, 99.5% of that fluid is non-toxic and the other .5% could be a variety of chemicals, some of which would have no harm on any living creature on this planet.

Yes, it does need to be monitored because there are instances when toxins are used (but again, in a very small percentage), but I don't get why it is made out to be such a scary technique when, for the most part, is relatively harmless.

Watching a pro-environment, anti-oil documentary will obviously have an agenda...
