Default Archive / Old Boards

I mention this stuff realizing there are changes underway that may not be "finished product", but works in progress...

Just noticed the change with the "archive" link.

What it goes to is a text version of the existing forums. That seems redundant, but that isn't my issue.

Are the old boards gone forever?

If not, could they be archived in a way that they are sortable, and searchable? Pretty much what I am asking for is- in their original configuration. I'd imagine a text version uses much less bandwidth when read, however text only makes it difficult to navigate.

The "archive" link at the bottom of this page. It doesn't go to where it used to go, or at least where the "old boards" link went...

The archive link never went to the old boards. There was a link at the top of these forums that said "Old Forums" .. and in a few more weeks, they will be gone.

Could the above ("Old Forums") link be moved to the Oasis?

Not sure where it is now, but there is an archive of the old WSS boards. It might be nice to access the old stuff from J$'s early days.

There is market information / snapshots that could be of competitive and discussion value.

I would suck if it went *** poof ***

There was a t missing, I believe, from your post....I think you meant IT would suck...not I would suck.

But I agree...Nick has mentioned dumping them, but I don't want them dumped. Those 120,000+ posts would still be part of THIS forum set if it weren't such a PIA to upgrade as far as we did and/or import them. We have the space for them to remain...at worst, we scale them down to a low bandwidth setup like you see on the archive link.

We already lost, wholly unintentionally, the first 50,000+ posts from our original forums.

For me, forum posts are a 'diary' of the history of our game.

Yup. Heck, it's a little too late for me to start remembering stuff correctly at this point

Is the low bandwidth really that much smaller than the regular configuration? It strikes me that it really would not come into play until people read posts from there, and that would be relatively infrequently.

The configuration at the current "archive" link is pretty tough to navigate, and search. unless I am missing something obvious...

Well it is not necessarily obvious. However, the reason Lo-Fi is used in the archive is because the search engine uses the Lo-Fi version. That way, when people search the Internet and a forum post from http://forums.jockstocks.com/ shows up it will deliver the least amount of bandwidth to them.

Make sense?
