The one thing I forgot to mention that was touched on in the link Nick threw up. They said 85% of the eligible voters voted (Ive seen/heard 86 elsewhere, but whats 1% other than say Gore/Bush). Thats an astounding number you only see in the US in small states like Delaware or North Dakota (and in most cases not even that). Heck TV commentators sound astonished if even only 50% of elgible voters vote.

True, but I'm sure it has something to do with being a smaller nation. I'd hope that if we only had 10% of the population we do now, that we'd have better voter turnout.
