Default NHL Schedule quirks

So I'm putting picks in for the next few days and noticed something quite odd in the NHL schedule.

Some teams didn't play for a few days prior to the current break while others won't play again until the end of this week.

The Jets, for example....first I noticed that they play Mon, Tues, and Thurs while others don't play their first game until Fri or Sat..........but then I looked and the Jets haven't played since last Saturday.

Just odd scheduling, but maybe it's pretty even that most teams get near a week off....

Every team gets a week off at varying times. I believe NHL started that last year.

Rule is each team has a 5 day off week. No practices 1st 4 days and practice on 5th day only if team plays on day 6.
And teams off this week have 5 more around the All-Star game.

NHL Players' Association signed off on the 3 on 3 All-Star format in exchange for this.

I wish my job implemented that kind of 5-day off policy.

Plus I'd enjoy the "summers off" thing that all NHL-ers get, like I used to back in high school and college--you know, when I went out and got summer jobs during my "down time".

Always a touchy subject, tho, is teacher salaries....people talk about so many being underpaid (especially here in SD)....yet nobody talks about the fact they have summers off most years. What would 75% of your salary be- that'd be the comparison, yeah?

Just not sure if all teachers are that underpaid. Around here the insurance premiums are better than at most other jobs and the pension plan is very good.
One of my best friends going back to college days retired at 58! He and his wife were both public high school teachers in a near suburb of Chicago. He came frim a blue collar family with 3 siblings. I doubt he got much of an inheritance when his folks passed away.

He supplements his income with an ebay posting service, but it seems like a fun hobby for him as opposed to needed income.

teachers are underpaid in rural areas. Not all, but many. Teacher salaries in this country average out at mid to high 50's.

I remember a conversation with a teacher years back, she was complaining about what she made. I asked her how much....she said "X". I asked how many days off she got in her 9 months or less. With time off she works less than 8 months per year. I tried explaining to her that I had to work 11 months to make what she did in 8 and I had no pension and limited health benefits. She paused...........and then started biching again.

years ago when I was still in Oregon, a guy in my church was retiring....he'd been a teacher in that district since college, a district whose pay was above the nat'l average............on top of that, he'd been accumulating vacation and sick leave (vacation leave...why?)...but had rarely used any

the district had a policy that the first year's pension would be paid out, along with paying out ALL unused vacation/sick time, within a week of retirement...........he got a check for well over 200k at retirement, and near 50k/yr pension..........while admitting he had NEVER worked more than 9 months in any year

Now, I get that teachers especially these days deal with more than they should have to, but the fact they only work 9 months has to factor in........maybe the way around this is for schools to be open year round.....but there's too many dynamics that would prevent that

Anyway, this is a bit off from why NHLers get a week off
