C.O.T.
The long awaited Car Of Tomorrow (COT) is here. I question the decision to debut it at Bristol of all places...that place is tough enough without a new car involved. Good thing is.....they're "all the same". NASCAR wants the cars to be safer and the teams to be more equal.........well....IMO....they will be safer but I don't see the teams being more equal....not yet. The "big 4 or 5" teams will still have an advantage over the single car teams no matter what NASCAR thinks. We could see a yellow flag record in this race.

i'm not sure how much safer it really is going to be. given it will radically change the aerodynamics that drivers are used to it might (at least initially) cause more wrecks and higher risk than the normal stock car.
i have a feeling nascar themselves aren't pleased with it. but they've hyped it up so much they can't very well do a 180 now. the financial implications are just too great. rest assured the car you see on the track in bristol will look nothing like the car you'll see there in 2009 and even less than the one you'll see in 2012. they'll change it dramatically, they almost have to. |

Ken....a few years back when I ran the concrete company here in this area I had a driver working for me that flew to the races on Fri evening to work in the pits for NASCAR(can't remember which team but they sent a "company plane" for him) and he always said to me that the drivers/teams want their cars IN the track not ON them. With the lack of downforce with this new car I'm afraid the cars will not be IN the track.
The fact that the driver is moved more to the "center" of the car will, in fact, make them safer.

I am surprise by now almost no one has put sponsers stickers on ther rear wing yet. I think only Newman and senior Busch are the only teams have put stickers on the sides of the wings. I figured by now they would be covered like the rest of the car.

Nascar announced last Tuesday that the COT will go full time next year. I think this really helps the owners save money. Instead of having to ready two different cars each week, present car and COT, they can focus financially on the new car.
Saves all of them money in the long run, and the drivers will get used to it as teams other than Hendrick's drivers, figure it out how to make the new cars turn better. |
