My North Shore trip

So, my brother and I both hit 'significant' birthdays last month (65 & 70) and decided to 'celebrate' by taking a trip together. Some 1200 or so miles later, we had a very enjoyable time.

He lives south of Minneapolis, so after picking him up there we headed to downtown Minneapolis where, because of the postponement on Monday, our Twins tickets allowed us to be at Target for a doubleheader. It was only in the low 40s, mostly cloudy, and the Twins sucked, but we had a good time- and included his 2 sons. There was a curfew both nights and National Guard people all over, but we still managed to find a couple open bars.

But the main focus of our trip was to go somewhere neither of us had before- what's called the arrowhead of Minnesota, the NE tip of the state above Lake Superior, or more specifically, the North Shore Scenic Byway that follows the lake up to the Canadian border.

After a night in Duluth, we followed the lake eventually all the way up to Grand Portage and the border, then out to High Falls, the highest waterfall in MN. That's the pic with the rainbow attached here, estimated between 100-130ft. Since I've not been to Niagara, that's the first waterfall I've been to that covered me with mist and that rainbow was over 180 degrees since we could see enough it was curling back in again at the bottom.

Gooseberry Falls is the other attached pic...multiple waterfalls and, as was the case all along this drive, lots of fisherman looking to hook a steelhead or two. I left home Monday afternoon and returned early evening last night, so 6 days total...and still didn't see/do all we wanted or even venture far from Lake Superior and out into the boundary waters area.
