Default Should Melky Cabrera win the batting title?

Strange but true

barring an unheard of run to finish the season by McCutchen, the season will end with Melky Cabrera having the highest batting average and enough at bats to qualify..........the only 2 conditions that decide a champion

but as we know, Melky is in the midst of a 50 game suspension for a positive PED test

Bud Selig is on record as saying 'we'll see how it plays out'

I didn't follow up with the case. Was he caught cheating this season, or was it a drug test taken last year and just processed this year?

Does it really matter?
He clearly admitted wrong doing/cheating. I can't believe he only just started.

The test had to have happened in August, per MLB's 2012-2016 Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The policy says,"Absent unusual circumstances, the specimens should be sent by FedEx to the laboratory on the same day they are collected. Remember that's how Ryan Braun beat his suspension. Comprehensive Drug Testing Inc. collects the samples and sends them to the WADA approved lab, Laboratoire de Controle du Dopage (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) who does the actual testing. The Players Association has to inform the player as soon as possible, and no less than 72 hours after notification, of a positive test.

Also strange but true...

Tony Gwynn won the batting title in '96 and didn't have enough at bats to qualify. Melky Cabrera won't have enough AB's to qualify either. He's going to win too.

the 'Tony Gwynn Rule' never has made sense to me.............adding hitless plate appearances that never happened...what is that

the 'rule' being, for those not aware....if a player doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify, but is given an 0fer for enough plate appearances TO quality and his average remains higher than anyone else, he still wins the title

was just coming here to post that.....now, assuming the players union actually honors his request....

but, at least a class (if not calculated) move on his part

now, I can understand them leaving him off for the first round since I think his 50th game would be in the middle of it......but I'm a bit surprised to read the Giants have no plan to activate Melky AT ALL this season

and before you think it's some sort of message to him....Mota got a 100 game suspension and they activated him.......A difference, I've read, is that Mota's suspension ended during the regular season while Melky's won't...and the CBA views a difference in that Mota could file a grievance that he was being punished a 2nd time if they didn't activate him...while in Melky's case they can just call it a baseball decision

....the question would be..ARE they sending him a message, then?
