Default Welcome to the American League, Astros

And here we go....

Apparently, Bud Selig in his finite wisdom, has told the prospective buyer of the Astros that his purchase would only be accepted if he agrees to a move to the AL.

Pros?
1) Balanced number of teams in each league
2) still thinking.......

Cons?
1.) ODD number of teams in each league...meaning 2 teams playing interleague virtually every day of the season
2.) Interleague games in September possibly impacting playoff races
3.) Division realignment...again?

As a Cardinals fan, I'm glad. That's one less team that we have to deal with. However, the Astros aren't really a threat.

I don't like that they're supposed to go to the AL West. They'd be in the same division as the Rangers. I hear Texas fans are mad because all of their division games would be against teams on the west coast (meaning all of their away games would end around midnight).

Quote:
Baseball owners unanimously approved the sale of the Houston Astros from Drayton McLane to Jim Crane on Thursday, which will lead to the team moving from the NL Central to the AL West for the 2013 season.
Quote:
Commissioner Bud Selig said owners also approved two additional wild-card teams for the postseason, meaning 10 of the 30 teams make the playoffs. Selig said he hopes the expanded playoffs can start next year, but he said the specifics are being worked out. The players' association favors the move.

Lovely, not only will the only 2 teams from Texas be in the same division, now they're doing all they can to try and ensure BOTH the Yankees and Red Sox make the playoffs

...all while subjecting us to year long interleague play and creating a situation where the World Series may not be done before the fall time change

Why move the Astros...forget contraction, add a team in Portland and Charlotte to the AL, realign to 8 4-team divisions, make the DH the home team manager's choice on a series by series basis...I mean if it's change they want, make big ones that'll last awhile.
