Stewart......while Smith got pushed down inside the yellow line....he's still not allowed to pass with any of his wheels to the left of that line.

the problem, as I read it, is that this is the first time they've used that rule.....in the past a pass like that was allowable if the checkered flag was in sight..........plus the question of whether Stewart bears any fault

still never saw how he ended up 18th in all that tho......dropped to the last car on the lead lap?

That was probably the penalty for passing under the line.....that sucks...he should at the very least get 2nd no?

funny thing is, that rule's most likely victim would normally be Stewart.

A number of times directly before, and even shortly after it's implementation, Tony was making a regular thing of those bottom line passes.

The rule only applies at Daytona, and Talladega, the "restrictor plate" races.

If I'm not mistaken Stewart was the first to be penalized by the "yellow line rule". Granted it did not cause him to lose the race but he was black flagged, which he decided to ignore.
