Michelle Wie
IMHO this debacle of a withdrawel is the worst abuse of rules I have ever seen on the LPGA. The LPGA has an obscure rule that in my memory has never had occassion to enforce. Simply put...if a non- LPGA member shoots 88 or higher, they're immediately suspended from competition for the rest of that calendar year. Wie was 14 over par coming to the 17th tee. A VP of the LPGA had words with Wie's agent who then spoke to Michelle on the tee. After that conversation she withdrew. As bad as she was playing, it is entirely possible that she would have bogied (or worse) the final 2 holes and gotten to that score of 88. While I understand the LPGA wanting to keep one of their drawing cards on tour...they have sacrificed their integrity in doing so.

That, of course, assumes that they had integrity to begin with.

I can tell you from experience that they did. I worked LPGA tournaments for 7 years in NY and never was given a reason of any kind to think otherwise.
I've worked PGA tourns in NY as well......and I prefer the LPGA for MANY reasons.
