Default I love Vegas field

Well this is one of the ways that the PGA gives back to communities across the country.

This tournaments raises money from Shriners hospitals for children across the country.

I think it would be appropriate for the good stories that come out of sports that don't even take place on the field, ice, or court are told more often but that is just me.

They are playing Las Vegas, Nevada.

The winner takes home $756,000.

Marc Turnesa was the winner last year.

Who is Marc Turnesa P?

The guy that won this tournament last year.

I have to admit, tho....as tiring as it can get when an event gets renamed for a sponsor, renamed for a person as well is just over the top...

the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open?! really?!
What possible reason is there for Justin's name to be there....

This is what wiki told me (though not very informational):

Quote:
The tournament announced that the Shriners Hospitals for Children would take over the operations of the tournament, and that the Las Vegas Founders, a volunteer group, would no longer be involved with the event. Fry's Electronics, chief presenting sponsor in 2006 and 2007, also ended their association with this event, choosing to concentrate on a second tournament in Arizona that it was already sponsoring. On November 12, 2007, the PGA Tour announced that Timberlake would become host of the tournament, and also announced the event's new name. Timberlake, an avid golfer who plays to a 6 handicap, will play in the celebrity pro-am and host a benefit concert during the week of the tournament

Your welcome -mmm-.

Who would want to see a Justin Timberlake concert?

Well at least it is for a good cause.

I guess I just answered my own question.

I have also read, although I can't remember where, that the PGA has been interested in getting new younger "hosts" to spur interest from younger generations. I was never a Timberlake fan but I have to admit that he has grown-up and appears to be a stand-up guy...doing more than just this for various charities.

I have zero problem with him being the host.........my question is, who benefits from his name being part of the tourney's name?
