Default Is Steinbrenner kidding?!

The Twins didn't like the Yankees' package that included 2 of 3 out of Hughes, Kennedy, and Cabrera plus for Santana before Hank's Monday deadline...........but now he's all but putting all 3 of 'em off limits but is 'still open for a trade'

....trade what?! The Twins are going to accept LESSER prospects now?

At this point, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrera and Cano, they're as close to untouchable as you get.
So are the Yankees going to be trading veterans for Johan?

Another question.

Is it true that Johan will not wave his no trade clause during the season so the Twins have to get the best deal possible before the season starts?

at this point the twins are screwed. they're pretty much as the mercy of the redsox given no one else seems interested in the price they think they can garner in talent (e.g., dodgers, angels, yanks, etc.).

so they either keep him for the year and hope this is their year or they let boston dictate what their future is going to be, although the mets might trade some lower tier talent and still seem interested.

actually it's gotten quite sad. i will say though i'm extremely glad steinbrenner didn't cave. johan's great but hardly worth the future and no starting pitcher is going to have the overall contribution of a quality infielder or a top-tier prospect with the ability to server either as a big league starter and/or closer.

in short the big winners are the red sox and the losers ultimately are the twins.

I disagree......the Twins still have Johan- hard to call them the losers IMBO

My bet is a deal is still done...and the worst that happens is that the Red Sox persuade a slightly better deal than they would have gotten had the Yankees not put in their deadline. In THAT case (and only that case) the Twins get a bit less and, because the Sox give up a bit less, that makes the Yankees losers as well.

But....yes, that's def a hitch at the moment- Johan HAS said he won't waive his no-trade clause during the season.

This is a big deal because if the Twins wait until after the season starts it is very possible that the Twins get nothing for Johan because he can become a free agent anyway.

I seem to remember when Borass [opps Freudian Slip ] was trying to make a deal during the world series and people had a cow. I am not exactly positive but I think a certain number of days after the world series a player can file for free agency. And I seem to remember it is only a few days after the world series is over.

So the Twins better get what they can now.
