If you've not followed it, first the Bucs bench him...just looking at his stats and results, not unusual. Problem is, Schiano had basically done everything he could to suck Freeman's confidence dry.

He asks to be traded, only to have information come out (likely leaked by the Bucs) that he had a positive drug test...despite the fact it was info that should NOT have been made public because he's not actually in the substance abuse program...he's diagnosed with ADHD and has an exemption to take Adderall...many/most with ADHD have Ritilin on hand as a backup and he had accidentally taken some once...which triggered a positive test.

So they try and trade him, despite his situation and salary dropping his trade value to nil. They then supposedly tried to find a way to release him yet NOT have to pay his full salary...which didn't and shouldn't have worked by the CBA.

So, today, saying Schiano was 'being inflicted with too much damage' over it all, they released Freeman. But not before FINING him for an 'unauthorized interview' when he tried to explain that he does NOT have a substance abuse issue.

Now, maybe there are Bucs fans here who feel differently, but does this not sound like one seriously dysfunctional organization at the moment?
