Default U. S. Open

Torey Pines, as we've known it, will be a totally different course. While most "in the know" conceed that Tiger owns this track, it will not be another "Big Brown....send it in". The experts are saying that the winner will come from one of the following:

Tiger Woods
Phil Mickelson
Sergio garcia
Jeff Quinney
Trevor Immelman

Tiger has already won at Torrey Pines this year..but on a totally different course
Phil has won here 3 times in his career, and grew up on this course, but now a totally different course
Sergio has the length and is playing well...but IMO his putter will fail him
Jeff Quinney is having a career year this year and is ready to break out
Trevor Immelman (as proclaimed by none other than Gary Player) is as good as anyone on the links now and has also won here in his career...but again, on a totally different course.

Tiger has almost a 2 stroke lower scoring average than Phil on the South course
Geoff Ogilvy has moved out to California and has some serious practice time on Torrey Pines....a previous Open winner, can not be discounted either....even though his last 4 events there he has missed the cut 3 times.

IMHO, others that can be considered to have a good chance:
Anthony Kim
Lee Westwood
Furyk
Singh
Adam Scott
Justin Rose
Pat Perez
Love III

This course is looooooooooooong...over 7600 yards. Which means except for the serious bangers off the tee, the short knockers will be hitting fairway woods, hybrids & long irons into HARD FAST greens, leaving long putts and difficult chips to save par. I'd be real surprised if the winning score is under par. Good, solid, consistent guys like Justin Leonard and David Toms (and others) IMHO just do not have the length to hit shorter, hopefully, green holding irons to give themselves legitimate birdie attempts. The often used term "fairways and greens" is always used when talking about Open Championships.....it never meant more than it does this year.

Defending Champion-Angel Cabrera-won 1.260 million last year...and the last 4 Opens have been won by non Americans.

The Field:

Robert Allenby
Stuart Appleby
Stephen Ames
Woody Austin
Aaron Baddeley
Rich Beem
Jason Bohn
Bart Bryant
Jonathan Byrd
Mark Calcavecchia
Chad Campbell
K.J. Choi
Daniel Chopra
Stewart Cink
Tim Clark
Ben Crane
Ben Curtis
Luke Donald
Ernie Els
Steve Flesch
Jim Furyk
Sergio Garcia
Retief Goosen
Jason Gore
Todd Hamilton
Padraig Harrington
J.B. Holmes
Charles Howell III
Trevor Immelman
Brandt Jobe
Dustin Johnson
Zach Johnson
Jerry Kelly
Anthony Kim
Matt Kuchar
Justin Leonard
Davis Love III
Hunter Mahan
Rocco Mediate
Shaun Micheel
Phil Mickelson
Sean O’Hair
Joe Ogilvie
Geoff Ogilvy
Rod Pampling
Jesper Parnevik
Pat Perez
Carl Pettersson
Ian Poulter
Brett Quigley
Jeff Quinney
John Rollins
Justin Rose
Rory Sabbatini
Adam Scott
Vijay Singh
Heath Slocum
Brandt Snedeker
Henrik Stenson
Steve Stricker
David Toms
D.J. Trahan
Scott Verplank
Camilo Villegas
Nick Watney
Bubba Watson
Boo Weekley
Mike Weir
Brett Wetterich
Dean Wilson
Tiger Woods

The pairing of Woods, Mickelson, Scott for Thurs and Fri could easily produce the winner, but even if not, will definitely be the best group to watch and I guarantee will get the most air time.

Marissa sure does have long legs.

I sort of already knew that I could do no wrong when it comes to Marissa.
