Default Yankees president subpoenaed

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3829924

This isn't a Yankee bashing, but this is the part that bothers me more than the rest:

"The Yankees are asking for another $259 million in tax-exempt bonds and $111 million in taxable bonds, on top of $940 million in tax-exempt bonds and $25 million in taxable bonds already granted for the $1.3 billion Bronx stadium."

Doesn't that add up to $1.335bil in bonds for a $1.3bil stadium?! I mean really....most teams aren't even getting HALF that to pay for new stadiums, let alone seeming not having to pay for ANY of it themselves...

The Mets are asking for $83mil more, with $615mil already approved for an $800mil stadium.

For comparison (imagine that...me using the Twins here!), Target Field in Minneapolis is in the $525mil range with the Twins paying about a third of it, the rest being generated with a .15% sales tax so that it's not just city residents footing the bill, but anyone shopping in Hennepin County.

Yeah but it still doesn't explain how a team like the Yankees (or Mets for that matter) can possibly justify basically paying NOTHING for a new stadium while other teams have to work hard to get to the point they 'only' have to pay a couple hundred million to get one.....

Then there is the other side of the story which is how much taxes do the Yankees pay to the city and state each year.

Mayor Bloomberg even mentioned this in the article when talking about the state, "I guess it makes for good political theater because it's the Yankees, but when it comes to valuable taxpayer dollars, decisions should be made on return, not rhetoric,".

Taxes and New York just go together sort of like when a person thinks of the Yankees they immediately think of New York.

There was a recent story about a huge shortfall in the state budget and the governor of New York was going to tax this, that, and the other thing to make the number smaller.

So for some reason it really does not surprise me that the city and state for that matter would put up a what seems to be a gargantuan amount of money for the Yankees to build their new stadium.

Just as an example I think most other places could get at least two stadiums and almost three stadiums built for the same amount of dollars the new Yankee stadium is being built for.
